Nah, I think that Zynga really is the best choice given the whole evil empire of social gaming angle.
Plus they already have people somehow opting into extremely repetive and shallow tasks with their current offerings, just not any that incorporate human skulls . . . yet.

And that they are coming up with an innovative way (although in doing so basically sending out a mass cry for help in terms of very possible addiction issues) to play a game by a developer whose founder stated clearly "I don't fucking want innovation" is kind of a funny thing.

Agreed. There are at least 2 incredibly hard, very fun platformers which have come out this year. Just because they aren't huge budget doesn't mean they don't exist.

Who rehash games like Guitar Hero a million times for money and treat developers like dirt. And oftentimes, developers lack a lot of job security and are under incentivized to create great games, always being pushed by their investors and bosses to meet deadlines which often do not allow time for polish and excellence to be had. And we still get plenty of shit games because of that.
I don't agree with that VGcat strip. But I also realize that the gaming industry is fucking nuts. It is still full of people who just want to make great games and be creative. But they are too often denied this ability and punished for attempting it by people more interested in making money. And that's no one's fault but the companies that own the development studios.
You can't have one without the other. I have some issues with the industry as it is, but I can ignore them, at least for now, because there are still good games being made worth playing.
As for the comic, I look forward to reading Jerry's explanation for this seeming 360 (no pun intended) on his opinion of the Kinect. So far it's been praise for what the peripheral represents, though not so much praise for the device itself as it is or the limited use it has been given by developers still trying to understand how to create games for it.
I knew I had to quit all FB games when I started trying that. I only made one dummy account, but that was part of what made me realize it was ridiculous that I had 700+ friends just to play some stupid, extremely repetitive games.
