Processor Upgrading.

jgeisjgeis Registered User regular
So I bought an a laptop recently and I don't have any problems with the system other than the low-voltage AMD V140 processor. Can I upgrade to any AMD processor that share the same socket type and supports the same AMD M880G chipset?

That wholly depends on your laptop

The majority have the processors permanently attached to the motheboard, to reduce space and materials

Strange, I've had the opposite experience. Most of the laptops I've taken apart have removable processors, aside from the cheap netbooks.

I'll have to open it up and check, but if it were removable would what I asked be the case?

As long as the chipset supports it and you can actually find a replacement, you should be fine.
