ZOMBIES! Come get yerrrr Zombies!

I just found this browser-based game called Die2Nite, yeah, yeah lame name, but the game is totally awesome.

Linky: http://www.die2nite.com. The game is still in beta, but email the developers at contact@die2nite.com and they might just give you an invite! (they did for me).

review: Review at Rock Paper Shotgun

In a nutshell: Survive as long as you can by cooperating with other players online in a browser-based action point game.

The Game: You are a survivor from some apocalyptic event which turned the world into a barren desert filled with zombies. Starting out, you will be automatically placed together with 39 other souls unfortunate to still be alive. Together you have a small town strong enough to hold off the occasional zombie, but this won't last when the zombies come in bigger and bigger numbers.

During the day, you can "safely" wander the desert outside the town in a grid-based map searching for planks, food, bolts, iron, washing machines, et cetera. All items have some kind of purpose. These items can then be brought home to town, and dumped in the bank for the town to use to build better defenses. The game has a building/improvement tree where you can spend action points on building watch towers, walls, traps, workshops, all to extend your existance here on the planet.

At night, 23:00 GMT (2PM Pacific) the zombies attack the town, and anyone left outside will be killed. If your defenses are strong enough, maybe not too many of the players are killed in town and if you are lucky, it's not you who goes first! 24 hours later, the zombies attack again... in bigger numbers.

Death is perma death, sortof! Death in this game causes you to respawn in another world/town to relive this mortal coil once again. Your previous adventures are tracked on your 'soul' page where accomplishments and deeds are visible.

The fun part about this game is that you have to get together as a group in your town, you have to all work collectively for goals or it will be all for nothing. Granted, it's a double edged sword in today's interwebs, but there is an interesting mechanic. Banishment!

Banishment occurs when a certain number of votes are cast against a citizen. he is then expelled from the town and has to live/die as an outcast. (im not quite sure how this works yet) He can survive by looting the town dump, and if a sufficient number of banishments occur, these lost souls can overthrow the town and create their own rule with the previous citizens as slaves.

So what happens as your village population dwindles? Well, the objective of the game is to survive as long as you can. Make do with the people you have, and try to survive ... When you are all dead and gone, history won't remember your auto-generated named village.

Seriously, this game got me hook line sinker pole and fisherman. what are you waiting for? Come get yerrrr ZOMBIES!

I got into this just few days ago.

    Man, it is brutal!

The town I got placed in was unable to locate a very vital resource and now we are screwed. Nothing to do but dig our collective grave called a "Great pit" deeper to keep ahead of the hordes.

Oh! The game is out of beta!

It seems like it could be a really cool game with a few design changes. As it is, there's one set path to survival, leaving no room for discussion or decision making. I didn't really dig the theme, either. It didn't feel zombie-ish. I think it would work better rethemed as a construction game or something.
