I am trying to find a 24 hour (not needed but would be nice) gym that is in or near Minneapolis. I was a member of lifetime but I found out that you have to pay for parking there, and I can't find any free parking around the place so I am not pay an extra $30 or so a month to go to the gym, its already expensive enough. Are there any gyms at all? I can't find any, just boxing gyms, WYCAs, yoga places and small gyms without freeweights.

Not yet, it will be a few months before I start and I will be starting at a community college that I am not sure even has a gym.

There are YMCAs all over Minneapolis. Downtown, Uptown, Northeast, apparently even Dinkytown though that may be a UMN affiliate - I've never noticed it myself. Downtown might not have free parking, but I'd bet the rest of these do. There are also a bunch in suburbs around the cities.

Since I'm unsure what you're looking for in a gym besides free weights and more-than-boxing-related equipment, I can't really say whether these facilities are exactly right. But the 2 YMCAs I've been to were equipped with what I believe most people look for. Track, basketball courts, treadmills, free weights and machines, pool, naked old men. I wouldn't count on remotely fancier stuff like racquetball courts though.

It'll be a cheap gym though. And don't take my word for it, but I believe if you have a buddy or family member who's a gym member there, you can get a good deal on membership yourself.

No free parking at the Uptown YMCA, and street parking near it is very hard to find.

Really I just need somewhere to lift weights and maybe run, I was a member of lifetime but their hours suck and the parking is ridiculous downtown.

It's actually really easy to get parking there, you just have to walk a short bit. Park on 28th by Humboldt or on Humboldt or on the opposite side of Hennepin on 28th. I went there for several years and if you just take a few minutes to learn the neighborhood, there's plenty of parking there, even in a snow emergency. Don't park in the senior housing parking lot, however.

But it looks like he wants something 24 hours. Your choices are basically Snap Fitness or Anytime Fitness.

Snap's club locator is here http://www.snapfitness.com/corporate/club-locator

At those you'll have to run on a treadmill (no track) and maybe use machines for weights.

I know the YWCA doesn't. You can do month-to-month.
