Hi there, I have webspace that I've dedicated to independent game submissions from a small group of people, but I've found that manually updating the space is boring and slows new content since I slack off on editing pages.
Installing some kind of Wiki software seems like a better way of doing things, it'd allow the creators to edit their own pages easily. So my first question would be, what would be Wiki software that you'd suggest for the purposes of a "database" of games? I'd imagine most would be fine, I can provide some more criteria if necessary, but I'd just like to hear people's thoughts on the kinds of Wiki options available. All I've looked at so far is this comparison on Wikipedia, I've seen a few that look like they would work but I thought I'd check here to get people's opinions: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comparison_of_wiki_software
Secondly I wondered if maybe there was some other kind of software package I could install on the website that would be even better for a web submission system of this kind? Wiki software should be fine but I might be overlooking a better option, so if anyone has suggestions they'd like to offer then I'd really appreciate the help. Doing something custom is probably beyond our talents.
Hope that gives some idea of what I'm looking for, if I need to elaborate on anything let me know, looking forward to hearing what you guys might suggest. And thank you for all the help!
Drupal and Joomla sound like they'd do what you want. Joomla is a bit prettier to start with but I feel it gets a bit tougher to make it do exactly what you want.
