Tom Hanks Will Never Die

TOM HANKS

turnerhooch.jpg

Tom Hanks was born on July 9, 1956 in Concord, California, a most unremarkable place. His dad, Amos Mefford Hanks, was apparently related to Abraham Lincoln through his mother, Nancy Hanks, and that's awesome. His mom, Janet Marylyn, wasn't related to anyone famous, but that's okay. As a young boy, Tom was a geek, a spaz, painfully shy with everyone, and prone to making up amazing songs.

So after he grew up, Tom went and studied theater at Chabot College in Hayward, California, and after two years, transferred to California State University, Sacramento. Except for going to lots of plays, nothing good really came out of this so he dropped out of college and moved to New York.

After some some TV and film appearances, Tom landed a lead role on the ABC TV show Bosom Buddies, which unfortunately ran for only two seasons.

Tom did some more stuff after that, but they're not important. What is important is that in 1987 he teamed up with Dan Akroyd and made Dragnet.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=II3DfPbffUw

And in the next year he starred in the critical and commercial success Big, the fantastic film where a young boy gets his wish of being older granted and subsequently has sex with a fine woman.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HX3pMcSXrYs

Unfortunately there were a string of failures after that, with The 'Burbs, Joe Versus the Volcano, and The Bonfire of the Vanities all being quite terrible. Turner and Hooch changed all of that though, with Tom delivering his best performance to date.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qrI9eSwgixc

He made some other movies after that. Sleepless in Seattle, a film about a man stalking a woman he doesn't know, Forrest Gump, the film that inspired The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, Apollo 13, a Ron Howard film, and Cast Away, a heart-warming story about a man and his volleyball.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z7Rv_7kWfBc&feature=related

So what else is Tom doing these days?

Well he's driving an electric car

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vl2CmfG1AAY
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GkDFP9Q1910

He's updating his own Youtube channel and Twitter.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rYGtSGPDU_Y

and he's eventually going to play Robert Langdon again in a sequel to Angels & Demons.

Now, you're probably asking yourself, "Why did Jeff Goldblum make this thread?"

Well it's because Tom Hanks is a national treasure and we should all take this time to talk about how awesome he is.

it's actually the voice of his brother Jim Hanks?

    true story

He also voices Woody in all the toy story video games.

I agree with everything you said except for "Unfortunately there were a string of failures after that, with The 'Burbs, Joe Versus the Volcano being quite terrible."

Because the Burbs and Joe Versus the Volcano are both excellent movies. Also no one has shit fits like Tom Hanks and he has some great ones in The Burbs!

How dare you make a thread where everyone thinks where everyone thinks that someone died. From now on everything celebrity related thread should start with:

I have been trying desperately to find the meltdown at the end of The Burbs where Tom pleads with the EMTs to take him to the hospital in a sad defeated voice because it is singularly hilarious every time I watch that movie, which is a lot because it is awesome as previously stated.

Castaway is pretty fantastic I reckon

it doesn't follow your standard arc, I mean it's a pretty well defined three acts but the second act is unique

the tooth extraction scene oh my god

and the whole thing with the extra length of rope ugh
