PS3 HDMI Issues

So, I just acquired a PS3 slim and, for whatever reason, it's not detecting my HDMI cables whatsoever. The cables should be fine, because they worked with my 360 without any problems.

I've tried resetting the PS3, changing the settings, and even holding down the power button until hearing two beeps, but that only resets it back to the 480i/full screen. I've heard that the latest firmware update will auto-detect if an HDMI cable is plugged in, but so far, I've got no luck with it.

It's kinda frustrating, because using the normal composite cables makes it look pretty terrible in motion. Anyone got any clues to why this won't work for me?

When you reset it and it goes to the 480i fullscreen mode, do you set it up from that point onward?

Once it brings up the (ugly-looking 480i) XMB, go to display settings and it'll bring up a list of all the settings (480i/p, 720i/p, 1080i/p). Check off all of them and if it resets you back to 480i, remove the highest one, repeat until it gets to a resolution that works.

Mine gives me issues sometimes if I leave 1080p checked because my TV is only 720p.

    Does your display support HDCP?

HDCP? I'm not sure what you mean there. It's max resolution is 720p, unfortunately, but I can't seem to find where I can check the resolution.

if your hdmi cable is absolutely outputting nothing, it's entirely possible the ps3 is a dud. are you able to get the receipt? if so you can swap it at the point of purchase.

HDCP is the copy protection that HDMI/PS3 uses.
If the TV or monitor doesn't support it then the PS3 won't be able to use that monitor (even if your 360 can).

    Do this.

My PS3 does this if I use it on a different TV without changing its settings.
