Need help with international flights

I have a friend in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. I am in Ottawa, Canada. She wants to come visit me.

They're is no direct flight, I know. What is the cheapest route to make this happen?

    I usually use Kayak as a general guide for this kind of question. If she's willing and able to fly out of Singapore that may save money. She could get there by train, bus, or cheap flight.

    I assume your friend will have no problems getting a visa? I'm not too familiar with how Canada works, but if she's Malaysian a visa might be difficult to obtain, even for visiting.
