Alright, so I've been approached about creating a simple web page for a restaurant with basic restaurant information like menus, how to make a reservation, etc with a basic admin interface to allow them to go in and update things. As I've never done this for a client that was paying I have no idea what to think about charging. I don't want to rip them off, but at the same time I don't want to donate my time.
Depends on the number of pages, any scripting code you want to do (like php or asp), if you'll be doing the images yourself (obviously they'd provide you with menu pictures or something, but you have to size and arrange them, possibly some editing).
A good way to figure it out is to determine the approximate number of hours you'll spend on it, add a safety margin, then do a quote based on that.
The main thing that affects the hourly rate value would be the coding complexity (eg if it's just html pages, fairly low hourly, but if you need to do an asp with an SQL backend, rediculously high).
Also, agree to terms for updates/corrections ahead of time.
