Xbox 360 - 3,534,089
Wii - 3,439,900
PlayStation 3 - 2,593,500
It's only slipped to #2 in what is still a close race.
And as admitted by that very article:
During the week of Thanksgiving, Nintendo sold 600,000 Wiis in the U.S., up from 550,000 in 2009.
It then goes on to temper this information with the fact that Kinect sold 2.5 million, which is kind of like saying Wal-Mart has much higher overall sales than Target, but boy does Target sell a lot more bananas than Wal-Mart!
It's no doubt in decline, but in this case "decline" means "merely keeping pace with your competitors rather than destroying them."
They sold a lot of them over Black Friday weekend; 600K, I believe?
Anyway, how many people are left who don't already have one? They could sell zero Wiis from now until the next generation starts, and still have outsold the competition when all is said and done. I think the "Wii is struggling" ship sailed about three years ago.

YTD numbers don't mean shit to anyone who doesn't really pay attention; it's all about keeping momentum, not the distance covered.
At Next-Gen Video Games in the Mid-Wilshire district, it has been two months since a customer bought a Nintendo Wii, the console that became a sensation for letting players swing a virtual tennis racket or steer a virtual car with a flick of the wrist.
You mean nobody in two months bought a Wii from this store? (pic from GAF)
Was it really hard for them to get anecdotes from Gamestop instead?

It's very much still selling, but the 360 and PS3 are gaining steam fast.
It's selling right in line with the PS3 and 360 in my store. It's not demolishing them anymore the way it used to, but it's not like sales have fallen off the face of the earth.
They built the Wii to well, not enough are breaking down and need replacements. They tried their best though, I'd say the Wii is probably the most prone to failure of any Nintendo product released.

So wait they called one store who hadn't sold any and just assumed that it was the same everywhere? That makes no sense...

Blow your load too early and there won't be any left for later. It's not selling as much, but it is still selling. Not that it matters, even at this rate more sales is just flattery. Nintendo have sold more than enough to justify continued support, and now it's only about pleasing shareholders.
I am surprised how well Kinect is received. It just sounded too ambitious but it seems to work and out Wiis the Wii in casual but creative fun fare. And... yeah dancing around to a screen is looking more natural in adds than waggling. I say this as a nintendo devotee who is still aiming for a Wii really soon. Competition is good it should prompt the giant to not be a dick or treat this as a gimmick and excel at the trend they started. Though likely they'll try a jump of track. They still haven't made the motion control super killer app that's both gamer and casual friendly.
Besides, Kinect vs Wii comparison right now is a poor comparison, the Wii has had years to reach saturation with its buyers, while Kinect is brand new.
How about Comparing Kinect's initial sales to Wii's initial sales?

Remember the compliments you receive, forget the insults; if you succeed in doing this, tell me how.
Re: Black Friday sales - To be fair, it was also selling below MSRP that day, which made it especially attractive for everybody that was out looking for a deal.
But that said, yes the article is goosery. Going from selling phenomenally to merely selling well is not "struggling for sales."
If I remember correctly, iSupply said that 2010 is the year the Wii is supposed to start decreasing units sold LTD. So, month to month, it will sell negative units.
It doesn't take a fake business degree to tell you that Nintendo is in trouble!

I think its pretty much impossible to keep up the momentum Nintendo had for so long. You can be sure that Nintendo has something in the pipeline for when the Wii truly starts plummeting in sales, I am sure we will se yet another price decrease after the holidays, and more than likely the announcement of a new system withing the next two years.
I was an early adopter of the Wii and sadly have neglected it for far too long. My PS3 gets all the love. (I do think that after I finish Dragon Age I need to finish up a few games on the Wii, mainly out of backlog guilt.)
I do think the honeymoon is over, especially with Sony and Microsoft having their own options for motion gaming. I really would not be surprised if Nintendo borrows from all three systems combining the best of Move, Kinect and their own tech. Each has something that works pretty well, but each definitely has its drawbacks.

I've sent my Wii back for repair at least 6 times. In my opinion, it's the worst piece of shit Nintendo has ever put out.
I am rather disappointed that the Wii has ended up essentially the same as the GameCube did for me. I get a cool game for it occasionally, but the other 11.5 months of the year, it just sits there collecting dust.
If it weren't for Zelda, I'd seriously consider not buying the next console.

Same situation - I think I'm close to a full year of non-use for the Wii. It was my first system of this gen, and for a while I loved it, but the library just isn't grabbing me. Reflecting on it, it's more or less because I've become completely indifferent to their first-party titles, and the few that seem interesting at first end up boring me within a few hours.
NSMB - tired of it after one session
Prime 3 was okay, beat it and enjoyed it, but I prefer side-scrolling metroid. (That said, the complaints about Other M are exactly the kind of issues that prevent me from enjoying other games so I haven't given it a chance yet. I enjoyed Shadow Complex a lot more.)
Twilight Princess - okay because it was the first Zelda I played since Ocarina, but I will never play it again. (Blasphemous as it is, I've even tried replaying Ocarina and it's so bland I just can't handle it. There is no nostalgia value for me anymore.)
Punch-Out - got bored a few tiers in. I may have beaten it actually, but I can't remember.
DS Zeldas - zero interest, but tried out hourglass and got bored.
MadWorld - ambitious but repetitive and I hated the art direction. Played to the second boss and returned it.
No More Heroes was good. I've owned the sequel for months but have never played it.
I don't even use it for TV-Internet because the outdated Flash support means newer Let's Plays are a crapshoot as to whether or not they'll play on the browser. I have a laptop for school now, so the convenience is not a factor anymore.
Not that I'm trying to shit on anyone's tastes here. I don't think these are necessarily objectively bad games, or that the Wii is a bad system, but I just don't care about Nintendo's lineup anymore. The games just don't excite me - it feels like I am eating cardboard.
I'm still considering a 3DS, though, depending on the lineup. But it definitely won't be at launch.

This is pretty much true, and the reason I waited so long to buy one. It's completely worth it for the one or two exclusives, though.
Endless Ocean 2, Metroid Prime Trilogy, and Deadly Creatures are all excellent. To be fair, there's a few more that I want; but more-so, want to come down in price. Twilight Princess, Muramusa: The Demon Blade, and Zak and Wiki spring to mind.
This is not to say that I'm rocking it with an Xbawks or a PS3 - I have no interest in either. The majority of my console playing is on the nes and snes. Virtual Console is the right idea, but it's mostly too expensive. Combined with staged releases and an unwillingness to release JP-only versions, it's just not useful, to me.
I actually ended up having more games for my GC than anything else last time around. I bought all the exclusives, of course, plus the GC versions of any multiplatform games released. Of course, towards the end western developers mostly ignored it, so it didn't get much of anything multiplatform. I guess you could say the same for the OXBox in Japan, but I mostly played Japanese games back then so it didn't bother me.
Nowadays, the industry has shifted around and probably everyone is struggling. The only constant is that many (especially western) developers just seem plain uninterested in Nintendo consoles. Back in the GC days when that console was plenty powerful enough to run anything their excuse was a lack of numbers; nowadays the Wii has all the consoles in the world out there, but developers simply never tried, citing lack of power. Now it's basically a self-fulfilling prophecy every time a good game is released with absolutely no fanfare or advertising and thus selling like crap since there is no way for it to stand out...
And then of course there are developers like CliffyB who just openly hate on the Wii and say it's just not powerful enough to do what they want before turning around and developing games on the iPhone. That sort of thing doesn't make me angry but I really have to wonder where the lack of goodwill for Nintendo is coming from.
Anyway, I liked my Wii but I eventually gave it to my mom so she could watch Netflix streams on her TV. The games coming out these days are marginally interesting to me but I don't feel compelled to play them. I got Mario Galaxy out of the system which is perhaps one of a handful of games in the past few years to put an honest smile on my face. It's moments like those I still play games, and Nintendo seems to be the most consistent in evoking them.

Quite a few worthwhile exclusives came out in the past few months:
Goldeneye
Kirby's Epic Yarn
Donkey Kong Country Returns
Epic Mickey
Sonic Colors
Other worthwhile (mostly third party) exclusives:
Monster Hunter Tri
Tatsunoko vs. Capcom
Rune Factory Frontier
Klonoa
Little King's Story
Red Steel 2
House of the Dead: Overkill
Sin & Punishment 2
Trauma Team
Resident Evil: Umbrella/Darkside Chronicles
Plus a lot on Wiiware. I tried not to go too many years back on those but if you're willing to play older games there's even more.

pretty much this. I don't know why I bought into the Wii hype at release after the Gamecube's miserable lineup. Wasn't the big holiday game Epic Mickey, which turned out to be way overhyped?
Honestly I'm mostly a PC gamer nowadays but the last time I heard a Wii mentioned was when someone got a Kinect, they said they unplugged the Wii to hook up the Kinect.
Fatburger is sorta like a Johnny Rockets, but less dancing, less retro 50s-60s gear on employees, and more of a delicious burger where they toast the bun just right, mustard and relish drip out because they overdo it on toppings (that's why they wrap it and leave one side open for you to eat. I would try compare it to a 5 guys burger or shake shack (NYC) but I have never been to either and it may not be prevalent in your local area.
Beyond that is there some reason people still buy Wiis, do they break often or something? I have not seen a lot good games on the Wii that wasn't from the official Nintendo bandwagon. It feels like a majority of interesting ones from 3rd parties tend to not do so good (ie Red Steel 2, NMH2, etc.) I think Disney's Epic Mickey might do well, but it's such a load of crock that they try to gimmick you into buying a paintbrush nunchuck just for this game.
I bought my Wii at launch and like most people loved it at first. Got bored with it, and sold it (when it could still be sold used for a profit).
It hasn't been until this year that I really been tempted to pick one up. SMG2 alone almost made me do it when that was released, but looking at the games, there's plenty of good, quality exclusives that would make it worth buying. To bad that with my PS3 and 360 my gaming time is already occupied enough as it is.

With me it's a bit different than most I guess, as I've played the Wii this gen much more than my other systems. I love my 360 and DS, but they still get less time than the Wii generally.
Edit: Oh, and yes, that article is pretty garbage.
My girlfriend got a Wii last christmas, got so bored with it that it now lives at my flat :P I don't play it often, but recently devoured Metroid Other M and the Metroid Prime Trilogy!
