Inspired by the below thread. I know I should go to a doctor (and will) but every time I take a flight I have an INTENSE pain in my ears or one ear. Popping my ear is also incredibly painful as well.
I always get some gum for air travel. When we're about to take off, I pop a piece and start chewing. The chewing action reduces nervousness and keeps the jaws moving. Also, ask a flight attendant. They always have good suggestions/remedies for it.

"Damn you and your Daily Doubles, you brigand!"
I don't believe it - I'm on my THIRD PS3, and my FIRST XBOX360. What the heck?
i get intense and very sharp pain in my head whenever i land or take off. swallowing a lot makes it more bearable, so i guess chewing gum or sucking on a sweet will help
Also, yawning. There's a way that you can yawn, and then *flex* some of your muscles to "yawn harder". I have absolutely no idea how to describe this, except to say that when I do this, my ears almost always pop, and I can hear the blood rushing through them. If this doesn't work by itself, a combination of that and a light tugging of my earlobe always works.

edit: K, just read Thanotos reply in the other thread. Consider it seconded.
Definately gum.

Gum is usually sufficient, though.
