Grand piano pinblock replacement cost VS restoration cost
I bought a used grand piano in June this year. It's a 6 foot Heintzman F Boudoir from 1922 or 1923. I didn't pay that much for it so I was quite happy with it.
Unfortunately, I probably should have had my tuner look at it before paying for it. My tuner had to come in three times over a period of 3 weeks recently due to some keys consistently going out of tune. I thought it was just the humidity conditions in my apartment. Would have got a humidifer and that would have solved the problem. However, he said that the pinblock was almost completely dried out.
I'm quite willing to replace the pinblock. However at this point, I wonder if I should get the entire grand restored as well. If I'm pulling out the pinblock, might as well do the whole shebang right?
Does anyone have any cost estimates? My tuner is going to put me in touch with someone who specializes in grands but I'd like to have a general idea of the cost of pinblock replacement and grand piano restoration before I contact him.
Ok do the whole thing if you have the cash but the case refinish will be the most expensive part.
I had my 1920's K52 Steinway gone through and it was not cheap so pick your battles, cosmetics or usability. If it does not make since buy another piano. It sucks but its a heck of a lot cheaper sometimes.
