So...Trillian sucks now?

Ever since yesterday, Trillian, which worked fine for over a year, decided to hate my computer. It doesn't usually last ten seconds before it shuts down repeatedly. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling it, using the new version, rebooting the computer, and nothing seems to help. And it only seems to have this problem with the desktop; my laptop is fine (so far.) So a) does anyone have a similar problem or know what happened?, and b) assuming Trillian and my computer just don't get along anymore, what's my alternative? Does anything work better?
You know what? Nanowrimo's cancelled on account of the world is stupid.
