SSX: "Deadly Descents" -- potentially less deadly, more tricky
I loved the only SSX game I ever played. It was the one with the sort of neo-grunge thing going on, and you could ski/board from the peak to the bottom of a huge ass mountain. It could take between 10 and 20 minutes, depending on which way you went if I remember correctly. My roomies and I played the shit out of that. Man, that was more than five years ago I think.

Sounds like 3 (which I never played, only Tricky).
Also - I probably shouldn't have, but I did end up getting SSX 3 from Gamestop used last night. I just had to try the whole idea that you went down one long, 15 minute ride. That sounded so cool.

If you got the Xbox version and intend to play on the 360, know that it will only display in widescreen if you set your 360 to display in 480p ahead of time.

But the continuous run thing is definitely 3. On Tour was just a set of menus leading to each run. They said they all took place on the same mountain but I didn't see anything that tied them together.
I think that was my problem with On Tour (among other things). I kinda liked the skis, nice way to mix it up, but the courses seemed so bland. After the over the top of Tricky and how everything flowed together in 3, On Tour was a let down.

On Tour was a huge let down- i forgot that it didn't have the full mountain runs though. So... what probably happened is that DD played 3 and On Tour without realizing it. I guess
Looks like you can buy gear before each run and the selection is different each time. I assume you keep what you buy, so you don't have to buy gear if you don't want to.
i hope the boards are are actually good. in borderlands like 75% of the random guns are crap. i have hope for it but 'millions of boards' really means like, 50-100 different ones with wildly varying stats. not that that's bad, but it's silly to say millions when the most of them will be useless.

No, I played one game. It had this weird sketchy new grunge rock thing going, and if you did stuff, you could unlock three sketchy characters-- a mod kid, a unicorn, and a viking. You could start at the peak and ski/board down the mountain for 15 minutes or so.

It was just...not all together. The wii gestures for Ubers NEVER felt consistent. The graphics were nice but never felt as clean or poppy as the PS2s. The controls were ok, but just weren't as precise. Pulling old levels and adding tweaks to them is cool in theory, but then just screams cheap after awhile.
It was, at the end of the day, an early Wii title. Not after they'd figured everything out, but a shoehorned tech game. It was ok for a couple of hours and then frustration set it.

I just noticed something watching the Giant Bomb vid that I didn't pick up on before:
The bindings? They're magnets. Giant-ass disc magnets. That's an INGENIOUS way to ground the game in some kind of reality when it comes to how they pull of those insane stunts.

I've been playing through SSX 3 (picked it up a week ago for the first time) this weekend, and I have to say, I absolutely love it, and if this is the direction that SSX 2012 heads in, then I'm excited. Truth be told, it makes me not want to revisit Tricky anymore.

Yeah, after I had SSX3 I never played Tricky again. Tricky was amazing, but SSX3 tops it in every way.
I totally don't buy games day 1 for full price these days. I just pre-ordered this through amazon though. I have been waiting for years for a new SSX this shit is going to be glorious.
Forthcoming snowboarding revival SSX ships with an online pass, publisher EA has confirmed.
As detailed by GameInformer, all players will be able to access the game's Explore and Global Events multiplayer modes, however, any in-game credits earned will be withheld until an online pass code is activated.
That code is included in new copies of the game, but those picking the game up second hand will have to fork over $10 for a digital voucher.
"In SSX, players without an Online Pass are able to compete and play in both of SSX's online game modes, Explore and Global Events with no restrictions," explained an EA spokesperson.
"In Global Events, the top finishers from each event are awarded with in-game credits. These in-game credits earned during play will not be awarded to the player if they do not have an Online Pass; these credits will be stored so that at any time, if a player redeems an Online Pass code, all the credits that they had previously earned in Global Events will be immediately awarded to them."
The credits let you unlock new items for your character and participate in special event drops across the two game modes.
The game, developed by EA Canada, is due out on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 on 2nd March. Give our recent SSX preview a read for more on what to expect.
Eh that's all I had to hear, going on the "buy used from GameFly someday" list. This wasn't really something I had planned on playing much online but I won't support doing the online pass thing anymore no matter how shiny they polish that turd of an idea.
Nothing wrong with wanting people to give you money for a product you made. And the alternative, in this case, isn't a big deal anyway. So you miss out on some fake money. Oh well.
I agree; this doesn't seem like that bad of an idea.
(I'll be getting it day one though, so I'm in the clear there.)
Regarding SSX 3 - when you have your Uber filled, and you are able to use the next tier of uber tricks, does R1 + R2 + Square do some sort of special uber? It seems like it takes longer to stick than the others (I'm using Kaori).
Yes, the next tier of tricks is more complex and takes more time to pull off.
Well, I understand that, but it's R1 + R2 + Square in particular. When I let go, the time for Kaori to get back into her bindings is considerably longer than if I simply had done R1 + Square or whatever.

Don't forget that you can unlock more Uber (You can eventually have one for just about every R1/R2/L1/L2 pairing) and can switch/buy new tricks if the ones you got take to long but the quicker ones are worth less points. Even with Super-uber combos.
So, I *loved* Tricky (hundreds of hours played easy) and could never get into SSX 3 when it came out. I thought the single mountain + lack of uniqueness to the character stats were a bit meh back then. Would it be worth it to haul out my PS2 (because fffff no BC on my PS3) to try it again? Does it age well? Really exited for this new one after I played it at PAX, and I'm not sure I can wait another month without going crazy.

Sounds like World Tour- there were no skis in 3.

Turns out for some of us, less was more.

This game looks like crack.
When I completely tore up SSX3 and posted massive scores and perfect runs, I felt AWESOME.
I might get Xbox Live again for this. The idea of RiderNet is AMAZING. thought it looks like you buy your gear before each run?

Of course, given that I didn't like SSX3 very much, I've still got some apprehensions.

Aww, why not? I love 3.

Won't affect most people excited about it anyway.
