It's coming up as 66% off, $6.79 on the US version of Steam for me.
Odd how scheduling the first day of a huge store-wide Steam sale on the same day that entry into a 100-game giveaway requires logging into Steam would cause issues. :P
I am getting Deus Ex for myself and one friend. Who will that friend be? O_o
*AHEM*
I've already tried clicking on some of you randomly but you already have it. C'mon there's gotta be someone out there who wants this game??
I don't have it yet. I'm not even bothering to log onto Steam until they get the servers straightened out. I have got to set a budget for myself or I will spend way too much money.
Aaaaand done. SMB bought for me and BC2 or my friend. I see Lara Croft @ 7.49. Will wait for more clarification there. See if there's a deal of the day type thing going on or not.

FFFFUUU moment 1: bought Mass Effect 2 on Amazon the other day without even thinking about the Steam sale.
FFFUUU moment 2: Fallout 3 has finally gone on sale for a price I'll buy it at, but Amazon says someone may have already bought it for me off my wishlist.
wow, bad company 2 is 6.79.
I guess EA is buying pretty heavily into that cheaper price = more profit thing
Cheaper prices + Crazy volume of sales = more profit.
That, and there's gigantically increased profit margins on DD releases compared to B&M retail. According to someone from 1C publishing, it can be something like 3-4 times the profit margin of store bought copies.
Not really. Only if you can't handle your own distribution. For someone like EA, the margins on DD may be less, depending on Valve's cut (unless it's through their own store, which of course means they get 100% of the money). That guy quoted retail as taking 40-60% or something which was flat out wrong. Typically retail makes $8-12 on a $50-60 title. The main difference is after a time retail stops buying a product and it usually drops to $5 at various online sellers. So once you stop making sales at retail, dropping the price at DD becomes a way to still generate money by competing with cheap retail that no longer brings in money.

I also don't have it. Though my money right now is being spent on dates, not games, sooo....
How long are these going? Is there any rotation? Why am I compelled to buy everything today?
WHY AM I FREAKING THE FUCK OUT!?
Well the standard deals (which is most of them) should be going until IIRC a couple of days into the new year.
If this is like last time, there's also going to be daily mega-deals, where a few titles get their price reduced even more than the current discount prices. Those should be listed on the front page once they've sorted all this out.
The daily deals are also a reason why people often suggest waiting before buying a title you're after. You never know if it's going to be one of the daily deals (of course, if the title's really new, then it's unlikely). If it isn't, then you can just buy on the last day.
EDIT: Although there was one unfortunate incident with the Witcher increasing in price part-way through the sale. Same with the Defence Grid DLC. Those were mistakes, in the case of the Witcher they only meant for it to be decreased price for a certain amount of time or something, I can't remember the specifics.
it's highly unlikely that Super Meat Boy is going to be discounted more than the current price of 3.75 and at that price you should get two just because it's a great game. It's one of the few recent titles that is a joy to play with no drawbacks. the music is great, the action is relentless, the controls are tight, the animation and graphics are spot-on. Everything about the game oozes with retro appeal while still being a modern arcade title.
Sniper Elite and PB Winterbottom sit in my cart. Sadly, the games I was awaiting are not discounted to decent enough price to purchase. (Tomb Raider and Mass Effect). Was hoping for a TR collection too.

Yeah, it's priced differently in my region. Base price is 30 dolars here.
EA prices vary by region. His base price is $30, as is mine.

$6.79 here in beautiful Raleigh, North Carolina
I have never played this game in my life. If you would like to rectify this I will be very grateful.

I don't think the drawing for that ends until midnight tonight. Or so it said on the Treasure Hunt page.
I'll try to get you your gift later when Valve fixes whatever is causing the problem.
I'm pretty sure it's everyone on the internet that is the problem
Also their servers are flammable, turns out

And Winterbottom for $0.50. There's no fucking reason to not buy this.
But then people won't rage.
Yeah, that burned me last time too, and I'm still upset.
yeah I saw that last time and knew the price was too good to be true, unfortunately the game kinda sucks
God damn it

Also, the aforementioned Super Meat Boy.
And Sniper Elite ($1.49), just for the hell of it.
Gifting's gonna be fun.
I don't feel right going through the specials tab.
It's the best non-RPG Star Wars game.
it better god damn work perfectly.
