I just got a new network drive, and I'm streaming video over my wireless network (g speed). However, I'm having issues with the video/audio getting jumpy about once every 20 minutes of uninterrupted playback. here's the default data for the way I've been saving video files:
704x304
25fps
1573kbps
12 bit
xvid
I've got 2 questions: First, what should I change in the file settings? Is there a better compression option, or should I try and find lower resolutions, or what?
Second, would this be any better on xbox 360? I generally have better luck with the 360 with media stuff, but the drive was formatted in a way that would need to be reformatted to be 360 compatable. I'd like to think the 360 would work better, but I'm not looking forward to reformatting.
I've found PS3, the original model at least, to have generally shitty wireless. At school, we had a 360 and ps3 side by side and the PS3 would have buffering issues and lost connections when streaming media FAR more than the 360. I heard the ps3 slim made improvements.
Instead of manually re-encoding files first, try using PS3 Media Server (works for both systems). It does on-the-fly transcoding and has a number of good presets for quality (in addition to full control). I rarely have issues streaming with it unless someone else in the house is hitting the network hard (torrenting, etc).
