my hotmail (not my primary email) has been sending out all sorts of spam, my facebook popped up with a warning that someone had tried to access it in an unknown location (somewhere in asia), my gmail detected suspicious activity and had me change my password...

I've picked up something nasty. I've done a full scan with spybot and comodo (my firewall/antivirius), and they've detected nothing so I'm not really sure where to go from here. Help?

Reformat your computer and then change every single password.

Do what Tycho said. It's the only way to be sure.

Sounds like you got some kind of spyware that's stealing any login information you enter. Do what Tycho said, and if you do any kind of online banking, check your account history as soon as possible, either from a safe computer or after you make your computer safe again.

EDIT: There's hardly any point bothering with trying to clean this up without wiping your hard drive. With something like this, you won't know if you've actually eliminated it until a large amount of time has passed and no suspicious activity has occurred anywhere, or all your login information is stolen again.

Is it safe to back up all my data - ie, music, photos? I can do a reformat if that's what I need to do, but there's a lot of stuff on my machine I'd hate to lose.

That stuff is likely safe as long as it's legit music/photos/etc and not stuff you grabbed from Limewire while you were extremely drunk and under the impression that listening to Linkin Park is a good idea, but I'd stick it on an external hard drive and scan it with Malwarebytes, AVG, Avira, Dr. Web, and MSE before moving it onto a computer you care about.
