Wireless Network Question

Howdy -

I have a strange issue with my work laptop that is preventing me from logging onto my wireless network at home. The IT guys aren't sure what the issue is, so I thought I would throw it out to the PA community to see if anyone has run across this issue.

My laptop is running Vista SP2 and does not have any issues connecting to a password protected or unprotected wireless network. It will connect to my wireless network at home when it is unprotected. However when I enable a password for logging into WiFi, it immediately fails out and says that, "The wireless signal is too weak."

I don't think it's an authentication issue because I have a personal laptop running Vista SP2, and I have the wireless network preferences set up identical as it relates to the it being WEP or whatever the protocol is. It just sucks that whenever I work at home, I have to turn off security on the wireless network to log in. And then our personal PC can't access the wireless network when it's not protected, which is an entirely different issue altogether. :)

Any ideas at all?

its an encryption problem. my wifes work computer did the same thing. basically when a corporation hands out a computer it has baseline encryption strength requirements. if its on a unencrypted it will use its default vpn encryption or standards set by the IT department, if your network is secured up it to at least WPA 1 preferilly 2. make the password at least 18 characters and alpha/numeric/special character with capital letters.

It's worth a try, but I've been to other friend's houses or places of business where a password is required to access the WiFi, and have had no issues. Those passwords were very simple so I'm not sure if there's another contributing factor.
