If you have a credit card for which your cell is the primary contact number, I'd call them and inquire as to your recent transactions/attempted transaction history. I've also heard of automated messages like this being used to verify online purchases and some types of applications (for credit cards, loans, etc).

I don't have a credit card. :( Should I try calling one of the credit reporting companies like Equifax or something?

One of the options Ebay has when reseting your password is for them to call a phone number attached to your account with a verification number. Plug the correct number into their password reset form and you get to assign a new password. They use a 4-digit code though, not 6 alphanumerics, so it's probably some other website that uses the same system.

If you have no idea what it's about, it's probably just a wrong number.
