New Year's Eve in New York City

Greetings!

A few friends and I will be up in New York for the Pinstripe Bowl game and we're staying there through the New Year. This will be my first trip to the Big Apple and I am pretty clueless about what to do for New Year's Eve.

What I've gathered is that basically we'll need to go to a bar/club a day or two before New Year's to reserve a spot and buy drink tickets, which I know can cost a bit, but we have no idea of where to go. While we're fine with throwing down some money for an enjoyable experience, we're not looking to completely break the bank on just getting into a place for the evening (especially if it ends up being a lousy place). So help me out and recommend a place or two and let me know if there's anything specific worth checking out. We'll be staying near LaGuardia but will obviously be able to travel around as need be.

Also, I cannot stress enough that we have no interest in trying to get to Times Square.

Thanks in advance for any and all help, and Merry Christmas!!!

It really all depends on the type of experience that you 're looking for.

On the upper east side, Saloon (saloonnyc.com) and Stumble Inn (nycbestbars.com) should both be under $100 for open bar and has a good crowd of early-mid 20 something partying hard.

If you have the cash and don't mind the B&T club nonsense, Pacha is doing a Tron themed New Years.

Otherwise you can always do the touristy ball drop. No Shame in it.

If you post more details about the group (size/demographics) and your party goal, I'll try and help more. :)
