This is my first week of living on my own for a while and I was told about three times to remember that I must bring out the rubbish before the garbage collectors come.
Well I totally forgot and now I have a full trash can and a full recycling can standing here. I've put them out ront anyway just incase the garbage cllectors make a second round or something (I some how doubt that) but what should I do if it doesn't get picked up???
I guess I'll just have to sit on it until next week but what do I do with the rubbish of next week? I put it all in a big plastic bag will they collect it?
As you can see I'm pretty new to the whole process.
I live in NSW Australia incase the garbage collecting procedures varry around the world or something....
I don't know if this will help but where I live, were only supposed to have 6 bags or cans. We have 8 people living here, so our trash is usually about 14 bags. We just put it all into giant 55 gallon bags and they usually take it.
Just squish it into the can. It's fucking garbage, so it's not like it matter if it breaks, is messy, etc. Just make it fit and take it out next week. I have to do this all the time since I'm always forgetting to take the garbage out in time.
Actually, the neighbor thing might be alright if you go and ask them the day before trash gets picked up. We do this with one neighbor every once in a while.
You want to be careful about leaving it out front for the whole week, as they may have ordinances against doing that and you might end up getting fined.
Really what you want to do is call your local council and find out how often the collection is, whether everything has to be in a can or if the collectors will pick up loose bags as well and if it is ok to leave stuff out front for a week (considering it isn't ok to do this in Edinburgh where it's cold, I doubt the authorities in Australia are going to be ok with your garbage rotting in the hot street for a week).
I have no idea how garbage collection works in Australia, but in my neighborhood in California you could contact the garbage collection company and schedule a special pickup if you missed the weekly collection. Additionally, the local waste transfer station (essentially a dump, but the garbage doesn't end up there) has reasonable rates even for small loads. You could even try asking someone else who is there with a small truck full of garbage to take yours in with them for a few bucks.
Another route if you are cheap and don't mind being somewhat sneaky, is that you could either break your garbage into several smaller bags and deposit them in various public trash cans, or you could locate an unlocked dumpster outside a business and toss your bag in there.
damn amigu where do you live
i dunno about inner city but i was under the impression that most local councils provide those big wheelie bins to everyone
in which case how do you fill one of those in a week
they are huge
if leaving it sitting tucked away somewhere and avoiding that general area until next week isnt an option, see if theres like an apartment complex or anything nearby
sometimes theyll have big communal dumpsters for everyone that can be filled up any time of day

I'd recommend against this for two reasons. One, it's illegal and two, many places have cameras so you are likely to get caught in your illegal activity.
Posts
look up local dumps
that is what the garbage collectors do, too, btw
Actually, it might get picked up more than once a week in big cities like New York. I have no knowledge of this utopic society, however.
Ok not really. I'll just squash it all down.
