Painting over something thats already glazed?

Quick question. I have an ocarina, and I dont really like the color or the design on it. I was wondering, if its already glazed, can i still paint over it, or no? If you have to sand it down and whatnot its not really worth it, but if I can just paint over it I might give it a shot.

    You can paint over it with acrylic paint.

    Oil... not so much probably.

    Painting over it might change the way it sounds. Just something to think about.
