I would aim for a higher weight, something in the 180 lbs range or so for you, being 5'8'' and all, maybe even bigger depending on how serious you are and what position you desire to play.
The general advice is to always throw with your pinky and ring finger on the laces, but when I started playing my hands were too small for that and it felt wierd.
When I throw the ball I have my thumb joint in the space of the last two stitches with my index finger just about on the very tip of the ball.
Make sure you step into your throws, leading receivers can be the toughest part of being QB
Also, are you going to be playing in pads, or is this just flag or touch football? If you've got actual linemen blocking for you, being 5'8" can make it hard to see over the linemen when you're passing. Are you particularly interested in being a quarterback?
