So what were you thinking would be the answers to each respective spoiler?
I guessed that there were some body swapping shenanigans, and thought for a long time that I wasn't playing as the man in red, and instead that he was in the lamp and got me started to further his own purposes.
But then I figured out the cat pretty conclusively a couple chapters early, I was proud of that.

I figured Sissel would actually be Jowd's wife, with something happening to make her forget the last 10 years of death. My guess for the lamp was the same as yours.
Incidentally, I loved how the whole "disappear at dawn" thing was offhandedly explained with "um, yeah, I liked to motivate you."

That's an interesting take too.
I guessed that about the time limit as well, though mostly because time kept passing and I didn't think there was enough time to finish the story. And also because of the other ghosts floating around with more experience than me.
Woo! Just finished this absolute gem of a game. Funny yet moving plot. Jaw dropping visuals. Unique and clever gameplay. It's games like this that truly make me love my DS.
Resisted coming in to this thread to ensure I stayed spoiler free as the mystery element of this one really grabbed me.
I pretty much failed to call any of the twists other than picking up that someone early on picking the wrong body to appear as, clued me in to expect Sissel not to be the corpse we were expecting.
What a delightful experience. Definately a game to try and force on anyone I know with a DS.
GRAAAAAAAAGH. Bringing this thread back from the dead to say that an iOS release seems to be coming. Apparently it's out on the New Zealand App Store, so check that out if you can.
Ace Attorney is already on iOS. Those are HD remakes of the first three.

Forget what I said last year in this thread, after replaying this game a few days ago if you haven't played this, or won't buy it when it comes out on the iOS you are helping the terrorists.
Best game of the year 2011 and probably also of all time.

I am so happy to see this on iOS, now I can get this game. I do have a DS, but I cannot find ghost trick here in Sydney for the life of me - but that is not an irrelevant problem! Now I just need to get the iPad back as my wife is traveling around with it. Who would have thought of using a mobile device outside of the house?! IT'S MADNESS I TELL YOU.
I remember borrowing this game from a friend. It was like what I assume cocaine to be but better. Still kicking myself that I didn't pick up a copy when Amazon had it for cheap.

I made a post in the other thread about this game!
So I was motivated enough to start and finish Ghost Trick thanks to all the praise.
Overall really really good. I think with some of the plot progressions/related power progressions, I felt things got a little unwieldy, I guess. Just kept getting wilder in a "Oh, by the way manipulator, oh by the way evil foreign nation, oh by the way magic meteorite, oh by the way alternate timelines..." way. It just didn't really mesh perfectly for me.
Buuut, the "core" mystery, and its core characters, was executed really, really well. Most of the answers Sissel comes across are satisfying in their own right, but even the ones that were less so always led to more questions that still remained interesting and tense. The tension and intrigue over the last half really carried me through with not wanting to take a break.
A large part of making that core work is the immensely strong cast. Sissel, Missile, Lynne, Kamila, Cabanela. Jowd was just kind of okay. Anyway, they're all really endearing in that Ace Attorney way, with good interactions and a huge amount of personality in their animations and dialogue. The main thrust of their intertwined fate on this super important night was sold really well, with the highlight being Cabanella's buildup and reveal.
Then at the end, my mind just naturally starts wandering when time travel comes up generally, but whatever, Missile owns. Top Pomeranian.
Generally not a huge fan of time wipes in endings, but everyone lives happily ever after so I'll accept it.
As far as actual gameplay, it's just a pretty novel concept executed pretty well. Probably could have used some type of fast forward on retries, but the experimentation was generally fun enough, and the banter helps to keep it interesting.
The globe swinging puzzle was just dumb though. Like, okay, suspension of disbelief so they can have entertaining puzzles or whatever. But this.
Game easily would have made #3 on my list. Prooobably wouldn't make it higher, but it was enjoyable and memorable enough to warrant serious consideration, and it is right there with them.

So, thank you to people who voted for it on this and other polls, for making me finally experience it.
It's free because lite versions of apps are just kinda stupid, so you buy the game with in-app stuff. If you are really on the fence still after the first two chapters, then you can buy the next chunk for $5. I admit, it's a bit silly to charge an extra five bucks if you get the full game this way, but at least there is some flexibility.
Well, I have a bunch of credit at Amazon, so it wouldn't be a terrible waste.
The iOS version seems just fine.

It was $15 new on Amazon for a long time. It only went up shortly before Christmas when I guess there was a surge in sales. It's $28 on Amazon now (backorder), and they're continually restocking it, so I hope that means it's doing well now.
It was also $20 on Capcom's official store website until it ran out of stock just a few days ago. Their store has good prices on DS games pretty often. Ace Attorney Investigations was only $14 (also out of stock) and Okamiden is only $20. Shipping is kind of high but it would be fine if you bought a few games at once.

"Ooooh, I see what they're doing with Sissel! And I figured it out several chapters ago! Yay! Okay game, go ahead and tell me what I already know.
"Okay okay, didn't get that one. But I've got the lamp totally pegged! Okay, show it to me."
Complete, all-expenses paid trip to Crazytown, but I played chapter one again, and it totally holds up. Awesome game.
By the way, is there a youtube or .jpg of
I missed that one.

That is all.

Is there a date?
I've been wanting to check this game out, but I'll wait for a snazzier looking iPad version.
(it's on iPad right? Not iPhone?)

Hopefully tomorrow... the pattern is that stuff hits New Zealand first, then gets rolled out. But who knows.
Not sure which version it's tuned for.
And maybe I'll get 999 and Corpse Party as well, if I'm lucky.
I firmly believe the iPad is the best platform for these type of games, mainly due to the high retina font for text.

Nah. The second screen doesn't add a heck of a lot and the cheapest I've seen it at Amazon is $24, used.
