How come when a girl is described as 'ravishing', it's a compliment, but when a girl is described as 'ravished', it's terrible?
Ravished implies non-consensual sex.
Well, yes. That's the thing. "You have ravishingly good looks, m'lady" is taken as a compliment. But God help you if you actually engage in any ravishing. This doesn't make any linguistical sense. "Giggle giggle! Why, yes, I sure do look rapeable! Thank you, good sir!"
