I'll see if I can find a scan later today, since ponytail Clark Kent looked like some hippie peace activist. If you remember Ultimate Uncle Ben from early USM issues, Clark looked the same way only with black hair.
Ultimate Ben looked the part though because he was supposed to be a hippie, like Aunt May
That was a really good re-characterisation of Bendis btw. Ultimate Aunt May is so much better than regular May, because she's actually a tough, likeable woman who gives shit to the man rather than an irritating old bag.
TLB how could you think cutting off your own hand and replacing it with a sickass hook is pretty dumb
I would think you of all people would recognize that it is pretty boss
Agreed. Normal Aquaman looks like such a dweeb, hook hand/bearded aquaman is awesome... or at least better.
BTW, I never got why aquaman was mocked for his powers. He's got the typical super strength/super speed (can swim ungodly fast)/ super durability.
Ya, ok, the whole talking to underwater life doesn't quite help onland. But christ, 75% of the world is covered in water, and his kingdom is underwater... thats a pretty damn usefull thing to have considering those factors!
Oh yeah, and now he can control undead sea creatures. Anyone who plays Dwarf fortress knows to fear the undead whale!

Clearly you never saw the page where he made an entire human army have seizures by using his marine life telepathy power. The writers reasoning being that all life came from the sea, so somewhere in the human brain there has to be a part that slightly resembles part of a fish brain.

Lol, I guess I didn't. Damn... that puts him on a whole new level doesn't it? Sounds like it was a one time thing though, a writer making his character uber.

Hook hand is okay, especially in JL because the scene where he cuts it off is ridiculawesome.
Orange shirt is okay too.

So I recently purchased the entire series off of amazon...just got through two really good episodes back to back.
Only a Dream: So so good. Like...really, really good. Best moment: as Batman is closing in on Dr. Destiny, the Dr. says something along the lines of "when you're this close to me I can get into your brain even when your wide awake." Batman's response? "My brain's not a very nice place to be..." Also humming frere jacques to keep him out of his head.
Maid of Honor: Not as good as Only a Dream...but decent. Gets props for my favorite Bman of the series thus far...after capturing a bad guy he asks him who he's working for.
Bad guy (in his own language): "You can't understand a word I'm saying and even if you could I won't tell you anything"
Batman (in the above language): "I can...and you will"
So awesome.

Seconded for truth. This was shortly followed by the dumbest moment in JLA...upon learning of above mentioned awesomeness Green Lantern remarks (very condescendingly)..."Cutting off his own hand...I told you he was crazy." REALLY...REALLY GL??? Aquaman cuts off his own hand to save his son and you act like he's some kind of nut to do that. WTH???
I love Flash's dream in Only A Dream. And basically that whole episode.
There's lots of parts in Maid of Honor I crack the fuck up at. Mostly involving Vandal.
Where Wonder Woman says not to hurt Audrey and Vandal goes "hurt her? I love her" in the most bland, unconvincing voice ever. Really Vandal? You can't put even a modicum of sincerity into that?

Also, apparently Wonder Woman realized that Bruce Wayne is Batman? Her remark at the end...I can't think of anything else she would have been referring to.

Yeah she realized it.
Either from his voice basically being the exact same or from his strong, manly arms holding her during the dance...

The writer to first do it was Grant Morrison, I think. Had Aquaman use that ability to kill or incapacitate some white martians. Not sure if Grant was still writing when he used it against the army though.

Didn't Batman break down all their secret identities really early in the series?
It's been a while since I watched the series, so I don't know where this clip falls in the timeline... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iieN9sxPJLs
She might've also noticed that it was awfully convenient that Gotham's richest dude was hanging around Kasnia the same time Batman was and also puttin' the moves on her a little.

the twinkling music and big eyes make it look like wally's in love with him
I still can't believe some of the sexual remarks the show got away with. Like in Maid of Honor: "I intend to go out with a bang. Several, if it can be arranged."
Yah, Warner Bros. did that a lot with many of their animated shows. Animaniacs, Pinky and the Brain (god I miss that show), most of them had underlying subtext that was only obvious to adult minds I think. It was pretty cool how I could watch the shows again and find completely new levels to them and not be completely turned off by kids-stuff.

If you can't beat them, arrange to have them beaten in your presence.
I miss those cartoons. It seems like the prominent cartoons don't really mix that level of cleverness anymore, with more of a demarcation between the solidly adult toons and the younger shows.
Although there are still some great shows that can cater to both, like Flapjack, Adventure Time, and Regular Show, but they don't feel the same. I think their humor bends generally more toward the surreal.
And I also have to say that Young Justice is doing a good job at keeping the torch in the wake of the DCAU, although it hasn't displayed much of the same clever subtext yet.

Phineas and Ferb, man. It's the only kid-show that I will actually stop browsing the Internet on my phone to watch with my kids.
My god, I swear I had watched all of Justice League, but I've never watched the scene with the corporate, pre-packaged pop music and The Question casually throwing the pot-plant through the window while humming. Awesome.
Also, "Hardly, you're drawn to my eccentric charm" is in my top ten lines from JL now.
Edit: Correction, "Blue overcoat... Fedora...". I hadn't finished watching the video when I posted.

*swooooooooon*
Kevin Conroy actually does a pretty good job of differentiating Bruce Wayne and Batman. The audience tends to forget that around JL because we see Bruce so much less.
After watching many passionless, boring, coma inducing episodes, I'm thinking of sticking a fork in this series. Bad animation, painful music, sub-par voice acting, darn near non-existent slice-of-life moments... this is just a bad follow up to Batman: TAS and Superman: TAS.
justice league and in particular rates as one of my all time favorite cartoon series.

This x100. I've always thought his voicework as Batman/Bruce Wayne is amazing. One of the subtleties I've always enjoyed is that whenever he switches to "Bruce" mode his voice always sounds..a bit acted or rehearsed. It's very subtle and fits the character well. B/c Batman is always "acting" when he's Bruce. The best I can describe it is if you have watched a live stage performance...Bruce's voice has that same "acted" tone that stage actors usually have.

I've been rewatching the DCAU shows recently (done Batman Vol. 1-3, and onto Superman). They seem to have gotten away with killing a heck of a lot of people in Superman.
Re: Kevin Conroy: Another point of confusion about his Batman/Bruce Wayne voices is that the Batman Beyond Bruce abandoned the regular Bruce Wayne voice. It's rare we hear Bruce Wayne from Conroy now but there were some scenes in Gotham Knight which used the voice.

I recently started working my way though Superman too seeing as I'd never watched it and i thought the same thing. Maybe that building that Superman and Metallo just destroyed had at least one dude left in it, let alone every other building Supes and "Villain" flatten. I know it's a cartoon and stuff get's destroyed, which is cool, but someone/a shit load of people have to have bit it as collateral damage.
Ah, my bad. You mean how the writers are just alright with killing people for story? I kinda came to terms with that, Batmans parents, Terrys parents, all of krypton, yadda yadda. But it does happen a fair bit for what is supposed to be a kids cartoon...
