The Dragon Age Thread also known as "Teefour can take a hint"
God fucking damnit we all love Bioware don't we. That company could sit down and shit on paper and we'd think it was rainbows and goldilock'd lollipops. But Bioware's first great success was found in a series known as BALDUR'S GATE, which involved space hamsters and D&D and wonderful things that we all enjoyed.
Years later, Bioware ventured back to their roots in the form of Dragon Age, a critically acclaimed fantasy RPG that plays an awful lot like Baldur's Gate if you're playing it on PC and plays an awful lot like....something...if you're on a console. Either way, it's a BIOWARE GAME. They did so damn well with it, they made an expansion. Also apparently there's a sequel coming out this year or something.
Dragon Age is Bioware's new generic fantasy IP. There are orc things called Darkspawn that attack the world in the form of a Bee-light and these people called the Grey Wardens have to stop them because that's what Grey Wardens do best: fuck up darkspawns. These articles can't spoil plots but suffice to say there's some decision making in the game because it's a bioware game and you have to recruit all kinds of different factions to your cause and there's an expansion but I didn't play that so it's not canonically correct.
Bioware is making a sequel that comes out soon but you can't play things that aren't released so go play the original you dumb whore
DISCUSS THE SLAYING OF DRAGONS AND OTHER MYTHICAL BEASTS HEREIN.
I kinda wanna give DA1 another chance. What little I saw of the story was really interesting and everyone goes on and on about how great it is, maybe if I just make myself play it I can come to appreciate the gameplay
I'm excited that I will be on spring break when this comes out so I can play it. can't risk starting games while I am in school because then I would never do anything for class.
I'm eager to play DA2 myself and I'm glad they're offering an actual choice of 'this happened in the first game' options for those like me unfortunate not to have played the first game yet. I do hope though that there's adequate time to do non-plot stuff prior to being dragged from one chapter to the next in Hawke's story.

It is worth playing despite it's few faults. Especially on PC where some simple mods make it more manageable, specifically the inventory.
i hope the combat wont' be boring this time around
i can barely stand d&d style combat in d&d, it's excruciating to watch two models flail at each other and have the animations not connected to the combat at all with numbers rising outta they heads
crank the difficulty down speed, cruise through that sucker
that sounds like a solid plan
gotta wait 'til the next time I get home though so I can reinstall it
on the lower difficulties you can usually get by with just the gambit/order system or whatever, definately have to pause and issue orders a lot on hard
Also, be sure to get a respec mod if you're on PC. I'm not sure how the autolevel system decides to skill your companions before you meet up with them, but it does a bad job almost always

I think I just played on the default difficulty, but I like turn based stuff so all the stopping to give orders was perfectly fine with me
I'm pretty sure I removed all of their auto-pilot commands so that my allies would stop using mana on shitty spells or using good abilities when I didn't want them to
combat looks way smoother, even the pause-lots stuff
I am excited about having a voice, that's the biggest thing about DA I don't like, is that the player character has no voice acting.
It's a Catch-22
I liked having tons of origin options, but I hated the no voice too. However I realize how difficult it would have been to do male and female voices for humans, elves, and dwarves. Not to mention if you expect a dwarf noble to be different than a commoner, or a wood elf to be different than a city elf.
Greetings thread.
I'm doing my second playthrough currently, Ultimate Edition this time.
Arcane Warrior ftw.
Respec mod is the best.
I turned Morrigan into my heal-bitch and Alistair into a dual-wielder.
Alistair is seriously murdering everything. Playing on normal, and I see him walk up to something, "stab stab DEAD".
In my current run I am a female dwarf noble rogue.
The number of variables in regards to outcomes and character/story choices are kind of staggering.
Yeah, but I was pretty disappointed you just got some written epilogues at the end.
Well I haven't finished the game yet, but I still think it's impressive even if that's the cause because of the you can change certain characters personalities, or the way some choices will make certain characters go "Fuck this, and fuck you, I'm out."
I still need to finish DA, but I have the ultimate edition so yay. And yeah, love the respec mod.
The chest mod is a must have too. Plops a giant chest in the middle of camp so you can dump off crafting supplies, weapons, armor, and turn ins for your end game factions.
Personally, I prefer having the multiple origins in exchange for having voice acting for the hero that we get in DA:O. I like the combat system. I like the connection the game keeps with the old school RPGs.

You know Arkham Asylum?
I'd love to see combat in an RPG where it was that visceral and responsive

Let's Play Final Fantasy 'II' (Ch10 - 5/17/10)
BUT, I am still excited for this game and have been considering picking the first one back up.
Dear satan I wish for this or maybe some of this....oh and I'm a medium or a large.

This latest playthrough will be the one though. I must finish this game you see because I already pre-ordered DA2: The Rise of Ethan Hawke

It looks kinda neat to me
also i'm laughin at the 'tales from the crypt'-style overhead lighting
that does seem like it's smoother, though

This is what I did and I still got totally bored after about 20 hours.
Also the characters were starting to annoy me so that didn't help.
I still feel sorta bad for not finishing it though.

At least it wasn't as bad as the AC2 team good god.
What spring does with the cherry trees.

As long as he voices my angry, drunken dwarf companion that wields a giant axe for killing stuff, I'm OK with it.

Basically all I ever see are conversations. So the game itself is fresh and new to my eyes.

Oh, agreed it'd fall flat on its face
But elsewhere, I'd lap it up
