I did a Drizzt clone, because you have to do a Drizzt clone (or at least start one) in a western fantasy RPG that lets you play a dual-wielding elf with dark skin and white hair, and for that I called him Guenhwyvar. (Which, I admit, is a girl's name, but eh--Drizzt clone)
Y-You do?
I always thought, since BG1, that you had to savagely murder Drizzt and any of his clones in a western fantasy RPG that lets you do so.

That's a corollary.
If you can play a Drizzt clone, you must. If you can kill Drizzt, you must.
It's like a law or something. "You must copy a popular character from the same genre to see if it's possible, and kill established characters to see if it's possible." So Wolverine in a modern light sci-fi setting, Drizzt in a standard fantasy setting, any of the major Jedi or Sith in a space opera...
So I am playing the expansion...just got done questing in that first city, did everything and left to the next place, well I just constantly get raped every fight because I don't have a tank. I have the rogue from the prison, me as a rogue, the gay mage and Oghren who dies as fast as I do. Where do I get a real tank?

Blackmarsh. He's a ways in though, so it might be rough getting him. Can you afford to respec Oghren? Wade sells a respec tome for like, 6 gold.

I'm pretty sure the respec tome only works on the main character.

For DA1 when's the time to stop putting attributes into magic and focus on willpower?
I should be able to get to Justice, I mean I can sort of fight but a group of bandits jumped me and I tried several times to beat them but died every time, so I just quit playing. Like there are a dozen bandits atleast, and I can't even kill more than two of them.

Just get what you need for prereqs and stuff. Otherwise magic is more important, as you can buy infinite lyrium
A decent ratio is 2 points to magic, 1 to willpower if you still want to boost the latter. But definitely lean towards magic, as your spellpower grows, so will your ability to kick ass.
So is there any word if this game will run OK on a Mac? Specifically, a latest model top spec 17" Macbook Pro? I played the console version last time and was told I was missing out so I'd like to get the PC one this time but I don't know if my comp has the grunt to run it.

I named my dog Dumas (Doo-mas). That way, when he didn't something stupid, I could slightly alter the pronunciation of his name.

You don't.
Because lyrium is infinite, and magic increases the amount of mana you get back for each lyrium potion, points in willpower beyond prereqs are actively a waste.
I had a friend who was a huge Forgotten Realms fan. I'll never forget the look of horror on his face as I described how I cheesed Drizzt to death in the original Baldur's Gate and made off with his equipment.

My dog was Ookla. I of course named my main character Thundarr. Starmetal sword completed the package.
Needed better fur underwear though.

Depends on how many sustained abilities you want to have turned on at a time.
So I'm playing through Awakening for the first time and just got to Velana and
Does anybody not kill her? I mean I'm normally a pretty forgiving guy in rpgs, let Sten out and was going to spare Loghain until Alistair refused but she is just the least likable party member I've ever seen. She is psycho, murders a bunch of innocent people and then is unrepentant when you tell her, threatens you, and then tries to murder you. Loghain was at least understandably crazy, not just a backwoods serial killer.

Um, you know there's a reason she's doing that, right? She didn't just up and decide murdering people sounded like a good time.

That would excuse killing the millitiamen but she was also murdering random merchants as well. And when she finds out she was tricked she wasn't even remotely sorry.

That should run splendedly.
But I prefer console Origins to PC Origins.

That's racism for you. All those people are the same and want the same thing and all that.
That being said...I didn't care for her. Not because I thought she was psycho or anything, just because she really whined a lot.
But she was a mage so I put up with it.

Velana was just a crappy Morrigan clone, in terms of personality. Just like how Anders was an Alistair clone, though most of Anders' jokes/sarcasm caused me to face-palm a lot.
Nathaniel was just plain quiet, and for a guy who defended his father's actions so much when you first meet him, he sure had a ton of bad shit to say about his old man (Of course, everyone did, but hey, Rendon Howe was a douchebag).
Oghren was, well, Oghren.
Justice reminded me a bit of Planescape: Torment's Vhailor, but with a little less of the "kill all unlawful things" and more of the "righteous might" sort of deal.
The one Legion of the Dead dwarf, I forget her name... she was alright, but she didn't really have what I'd call a memorable personality.
Sooo.....Apparently there's a bug in Awakening where you lose all your equipment but it is in such a manner that you don't find out for awhile? Past when the game autosaves so unless you coincidentally made a save right before it you either lose everything or lose a whole bunch of progress in the game? Yeah..that's kind of annoying.

That's the Silverite Mine bug? Yeah, that...that one's a bitch.
On the bright side, the way I save in these sorts of games has me making a different save for each location, so I had one in the Wending Wood just before I entered the mine.
The one Legion of the Dead dwarf, I forget her name... she was alright, but she didn't really have what I'd call a memorable personality.
She had great banters though.
Plus there's her reaction when you don't put a rogue onto a lock and fail to unlock it. That, along the criers in Orzammar, makes me think that "Fail!" might be an actual in-universe dwarf insult.
For numerous and perfectly acceptable reasons, the companions in Awakening weren't as complex or well-thought-out as the ones in Origins, to say nothing of the fact that there were fewer of them. That being said, you do get a closer look at the world through them.
So, I just started Awakening last night. Just got through the first sequence, with the attack on Vigil. I thought the pacing was pretty good.
Anyway, two questions:
1.
Is there a way to avoid the female recruit you start out with dying during the joining?
2. I 'm playing on Xbox with a character imported from Origins, but I can't get the respec book (Tome of Focus, I think) to work. I can buy it, it's in my inventory, but there's no choice to "use" it. Is this a known bug, or am I doing it wrong?

...I think I might need to play another mage character, just so I can try it tripled.
(Note this is with an unofficial fix that corrects the weapon-speed bug with haste.)
apparently this all the little bits of murder scenes and renegade interrupts and what have you and you won't be seeing much of it in one playthrough
