new best car was a triangle with wheels on each point.

ehhh
I do get sick of some cars and wish to cull them from the gene pool, like the sloooowwwww crawlers and just won't stop, I don't like those and occasionally cull them
the up vote I don't use too much, they'll get to the finish eventually, I guess it protects against a weird chance flip over or game messup that ends its run too soon

haha i just set it to allow as many as 8 wheels, just to see how that goes
first guy in the new generation has 7 wheels
fucker was just WAITING for that chance
oh sweet jesus the next one has 8 wheels
seven of them spread on the front over what looks like 4 points
the frustration you get when a car that looks like it can totally make past the new selection point on the track, or obviously slow and rather flawed design ends up being selected by luck, totally amplifies the excitement when a new design starts rocking the track
[14:42:44] <MKR> It's hilarious to see these hideous forms try to move
[14:43:02] <MKR> They know they wont make it, but they want to please their algorithmic creator
The way I have the wheels, 2 wheels seems to be what it's selecting for on this track so far
gonna see where it's gone after i take the dog for a walk.

It's strange. I ran it once and it ran fine. I restarted it and now it runs really choppy.

Is there any way to view these cars for more than a half second before a new one spawns?
And as far as horrific failures go I have seen pointy blocks with zero wheels and cars with wheels completely encased within their geometry.

they run for longer as the shittier ones are bred out and the course end gets further out
I do not plan on using the addition of the up and down voting.
seems like cheating
Up voting simply ensures that a design wins any tournament selection it ends up in. Roulette wheel is nice starting place and for something like this, it probably was picked because the randomness of it benefits the point, which is to watch something emerge slowly out of really wacky designs.

Gotta just let it run then, okay.
I love it when they have absurdly tiny, single wheels.

after 30 generations on this, if I don't have any interesting cars coming along, I'm gonna shoot for a viable 1-wheel design on a new course
had a perfect two-wheeled dragster type car with excellent ground clearance
but nope it hit the limit or something and back I go to fucking cars without wheels or cars that spawn in upside down and fail because of it
I wonder how long it'll be before this is cited by anti-evolution pundits
"Look how shit it is! God must be behind it all!"
My initial reaction to this is to angrily explain all the ways that a genetic algorithm is different from evolution and also point out that well-written ones converge on a pretty good answer in a reliable way, but then I remembered that it's Friday and I'm home from work and I have a bottle of Port here, so I'm just going to watch funny cars bounce around.

cause i am just watching them now
it's like the 2nd version though, so I wouldn't be surprised if he added other things
as it is, it's still fascinating

fucker is an animal
edit: OH COME ON THIS ONE IS JUST CHEATING
IT'S ALL WHEELS
Classic Version
1 or 2 wheels
MAYBE 3, I'll think about it
but 8 wheels is CHEATING, they're all huge wheels too
best way to deal with clearance problems.
it follows me in every cource
gonna see where it's gone after i take the dog for a walk.

though sometimes it'll reject a design that running along just fine

huuge drop in my generational performance

That's roulette wheel selection.
Of course, the possibility of a mutation or crossover screwing up a perfectly fine chromosome always exists too.
judging on what I've seen already, yep probably
fuckin' evolutionary outliers need to be more reliable.
Just like real life

Yeah I've noticed that a lot of late, never saw it in the older version
EDIT: He needs to update his page...
Mostly rear weighted dragsters now
but then there was this
kept flipping and going backwards until it got back to the side with the small wheel
had a perfect two-wheeled dragster type car with excellent ground clearance
but nope it hit the limit or something and back I go to fucking cars without wheels or cars that spawn in upside down and fail because of it

Personally I prefer my cars designed... intelligently. *puts on shades*
