Dear darmak,
Why the fuck would you buy her the game
Because she enjoys it?
edit: I'm sorry Centipeed, I won't buy anything else until I get your approval first.
Guys, if Darmak seems a little peevish right now, cut him some slack because he obviously has a lot on his mind what with the imminent disintegration of his marriage to a crazy woman. ;-)
Hence my question as to why he bought it for her. Sure, she likes it but if it freaks you out...
I was just kidding about that. She doesn't actually get mad and I think it's cute.
I know I was kidding also. It's cool you found someone with a similar interest. Didn't she tell you off for spending so much during the christmas sale? Our am I thinking of another paer?
Probably me? But those sales were ca-razy, dear wife! I'd be an idiot to pass them up!
I also got in trouble for spending so much during the Thanksgiving sale. Wife saw my bank statement when she was doing the monthly filing and...yeah...
Her: "What is this $90 charge from Valve Software Seatle?"
Me: "That was for The Sims 3."
Her: "You spent $90 on 1 game?"
Me: "... I bought it for you...?"
Her: "Oh, cool. Thanks, hon."
A quote came to mind after that conversation
Neo: What are you trying to tell me? That I can dodge bullets?
Morpheus: No, Neo. I'm trying to tell you that when you're ready, you won't have to.

To be fair to your wife, you did go bonkers even by Steam thread standards.
Also, all you unmarried Steam junkies out there, let this be a lesson to you: Be sure you are the one who does the finances and filing!
Fuck, I missed the Impulse hate? They also need their own versions of patches, and they usually break the game each time they update. You want to stay two or three patches behind on Impulse if you want your game to keep working.

Quoth Mrs. Hajile in an email titled "wtf electric" after a $502.02 electric bill:
"I went ahead and paid the electric bill. yuck! Please don't buy any more games; you've bought a lot. Check out your MC statement if you don't believe me."
Yeah, and I had a couple game purchases left to clear at that point. Oops. Too bad her laptop or desktop won't play The Sims 3, or I would at least get her the base game.

Actually, let me amend the statement: Also, all you unmarried Steam junkies out there, let this be a lesson to you: Be sure you are the one who does the finances and filing, AND DON'T EVER EVER EVER MESS IT UP BY MISSING A BILL! That's what happened to me. I have a Computer Engineering degree with a minor in math, but I am super-forgetful when it comes to those kinds of things.

"They usually break the game each time they update." What does that even mean?
Sigh, I've been in Steam ADD lately, torn between wanting to play around with a bunch of games to see how my new computer can handle/destroy them graphically and wanting something to focus on and play all the way through. Especially with my time constraints the first PA game may be the one I'm currently playing to make the game I power through right now with how quickly I can drop in and out of it. I need more time and simultaneously more and fewer steam games

I mean their versions of patches are fucked up. You hit update, it installs the patch, and the game doesn't run again until they release their next update, which fixes their broken patch. And they only have one guy handling that, so it's usually a week before they release the hotfix. Until then, you can reinstall from scratch if you want to keep playing.

Okay, I've been running Impulse for ... well, since well before it stopped being the pre-cursor to Impulse and became Impulse, and that has, literally, never happened to me.
They only "similar" issues I've run into has been with Mount and Blade / Warband, and that's because official patches oftentimes break the mods I'm playing. At least with Impulse, I don't get automatically updated just by running the launcher program (and, yes, I'm aware that you can turn this off in Steam, but if you haven't turned off auto-patching before Steam starts the download, you're in trouble).
SO, Dungeons is out today (at least here in England). Anyone bought it yet? Is it any good?

My wife is ok with my Steam purchases as long as I don't get too crazy. She's pretty happy I'm not into something like golf or boating. Gaming is relatively inexpensive and it doesn't take me out of the house.
It's worked fine for the games I use it for (Stardock games, mostly). Great customer service. Doesn't have the same blockbuster sales Steam has, but I've gotten Sins of a Solar Empire for $4 and GalCiv2 complete for $9. Good stuff.

I've found that's the key to a good marriage - building up the intent of an extremely expensive hobby that I don't have any interest in following up on so that a later purchase seems like a relief in comparison. It's win/win/win!
I really wish Freedom Force could be registered on Steam. I already own a copy, but it won't work in Windows 7. There's a patch for SP2, which I haven't tried yet, but that's not necessarily going to do it.
Blargh! I'm having so much fun with Killing Floor but I'm getting complete system lock ups once an hour. Only solution is to kill the power and restart.
The bad part is I keep going back to the game because it is so darn fun!

Man, Freedom Force was on sale for like $2 or something around last Thanksgiving, less if you bought a pack of 'em. I wouldn't fret, I'm sure it'll be marked down again if five bucks is too much.
So this King Arthur thing, is it worthwhile getting the complete pack? What kind of value is in the expansions?
It's been answered on page 11 but bears repeating. If you like strategy games King Arthur Complete is a great deal at $12. The Expansions let you play as different kingdoms and add a lot to the game.

With some of the FF sales that have happened, I've almost felt that I've been losing money by not buying it twice.
Ah I'm only a couple hours into it yet so that'll be it then. So far the set pieces are fantastic. Chasin g the ghoul over the rooftops, taking out the cyclops and making your way to Menalag's(sp?) manor whilst Necromancers hang around everywhere.
I also just figured out how to use fire arrows. So good.

I really do need to get back to playing Dark Messiah someday. I can't remember why I stopped playing it a few years ago, but I wasn't very far at all.

You should. It's not very long, except for one particular chapter.
On a whim, I decided to give it a shot after having it on my list for years. Played it the whole way in one sitting.

If anyone wants to try it because they think it's like Dungeon keeper or a spiritual successor, don't.
If you want to design a dungeon with weird little things and cater to a heroes every need before you kill him, do. I really disliked the game play mechanics. I'm supposed to be evil, not buddy-buddy with the heroes! I'm supposed to be keeping people out of my dungeon unless I'm torturing them! Damn you Kalypso!
Please tell me I'm not the only one getting hit with some weird disassociative disorder thing and actually having some small mote of brain matter suggesting that I take that deal.
"It's a mere 20% of what it'd normally cost! 20%!"

So tempting but no, I must refrain! Test Drive 2 and Deus Ex are just around the corner. MUST. NOT. FALTER!
Also, everyone should play Dark Messiah Might and Magic right now. It is so good. Perfect even.
