Windows 7 Click-and-drag copies files, not transfers

Anyone had any experience with this? At some point, click-and-dragging a file from my desktop, for instance, into a folder copies the file instead of cut-and-pasting it. Anyone know how to fix?

Hold shift after you start dragging.

It depends on whether or not you're dragging from one disk to another, or between two spots on the same disk. By default, left-click-dragging a file from one disk to another will copy it, whereas left-click-dragging a file from one folder to another folder on the same disk will move it.

To get an explicit choice on which one you want to happen, just right-click-drag it instead. You'll get a pop-up menu to choose exactly which one you want.
