Is BSG: Razor required viewing for Season 4? **BSG SPOILERS**

Okay, Alyce and I just finished watching season 3 of BSG. When we loaded up season 4 on netflix, the first episode is BSG: Razor. It's apparently an 87 minute long episode about Admiral Cain and the Pegasus and what happened before they found Galactica.

So here's the deal. We kinda wanna jump in to season 4, and we're not really interested in this if it's a stand alone thing that won't have anything to do with the plot of season 4. Do we have to watch it to pick certain things up, or can it be skipped? Thanks!

It's not required, but I was a little sad I didn't watch it when I didn't have all the info from season 4. It was still awesome though, and I don't think it lost any impact.

I don't mean to give the impression that it can't stand alone.

You definately don't need to watch it, but its a little bit cool to have more of that branch of the story.

You can always come back to it an episode or two into the fourth season.

Definitely not required, but it's preferable.

Not required, and not missed. It's just flavor stuff. The show functions by itself.

This is what I was trying to get at. I didn't feel like I was missing anything having viewed it after season 4... I didn't even know it existed until after I saw season 4. It's just background. It's more for the sake of Razor than the series that I would liked to have watched it first.

Nothing is really lost either way, though.

If it hadn't come at the end of yet another scifi patented 9 month hiatus, it would have been largely forgettable. But it's hardly the worst the show had to offer.

i watched it in order, complete with Razor first, since I watched the whole show from the Dvds.

i pretty much agree that it's not necessary, but it does give some character depth.

really, it's up to you guys what you want to do.

Thanks guys! I think we're going to just say fuck it, and watch it anyway even if it's a stand-alone thing. If anything, it'll make the series last longer, because God knows I'm going to be sad when it ends.

I suspect sadness won't be the emotion you will be feeling after the finale...

Re: Razor -- it introduces a pretty badass character that unfortunately is only around for the duration of Razor itself. But it also (a) setups an important Starbuck storyline for S4, and (b) gives you more time with Admiral Cain, who is probably the baddest mofo in the Colonial Fleet.

I would recommend that you watch it.

I thought Admiral Cain was pretty boring and static. But this isn't a thread to discuss BSG :X
You'll be sad way before the end of Season 4. Witness what a writers strike can do to fuck up television.

Aw DUDES, don't tell me that! I don't wanna hear about how BSG is going to suck, because then I'll just pay extra attention to shitty writing or whatever, and I actually want to enjoy how awesome this show is.

Also, I already know a "wizard did it." And I'm okay with this.

Don't listen to them. There are some that hate it, and have to shit on it whenever anybody even tangentially brings it up, or somehow warn them off.

The writing through the fourth season is generally rock solid, and the season still contains a few of the best episodes from the entire series. Even the ending isn't universally despised. There are quite a few of us that genuinely liked the ending.

I fucking loved the ending and I will totally fight about it. Don't listen to those guys.

Also, when the OP mentioned spoilers in the title, I don't think he meant for him, so let's not fight about it here.
