Ancient Egyptian Art

I've been learning about ancient egyptian art, and recently visited the British Museum online. I explored their online tour of Egypt in the Old Kingdom and l payed close attention to the examples of artwork that they show. The first one that caught my eye was the limestone false door of Ptahshepses. This image is interesting to me because almost being 12 feet call, it is made out of pure limestone and is only made for looks. False doors were standard features in a lot of tombs in the Memphis region. Also, I noticed the skill and craftsmenship used to carve the false door and it's detail. What is your opinion on the way the piece is designed? What do you think the purpose of the false door was?

I believe false doors in tombs tend to represent a passage to the next world.

I don't think the artist subforum is the right place to discuss art history, this place is about sharing your own art. This is probably getting moved to D&D I guess.

Sentence once, paragraph one. Write your own review imo :P BUT ANYWAYS! I'm confused on why you are asking about it. Are you planning on making a project based on it or something? It sounds like something a teacher would assign out or something. Also, why not link to it? I want to see you get help with the topic though, so expand maybe?

In my opinion, the design/craftmenship of the false door was un-paralleled. Not simply because of the placement of the bricks or even the highly detailed and complicated hyroglyphs, but the idea behind what the egyptians were attempting to acomplish through this design. As we can see in even present day history, the ancient egyptians still have the rest of the world fooled as to what and where they are hiding their riches. The purpose of this door then appears to be used to aid in the concealment of these timless secrets. We can see that their knowledge of science and construction has paid off through the ages as we uncover the next biggest discovery day to day.
