Karkand has me excited. I love Karkand and Wake Island, both my favorite BF2 maps. But wait, I thought they said they were making it 80 players on a map?
Hmm, Wake Island. That map was the pinnacle of why I hated BF2. Either the Chinese Team wasn't retarded (Good J10 Pilots could camp the entire American Team on the Carrier since it had better turning than the F35) or the US Team just absolutely stomped the Chinese Team. It was hard to get that in between battle.
I always found the guided missile placements absolutely useless on Wake Island...or any map with jets for that matter. By the time you manage to lock on, they've been, gone and are out of range, lining up their next bombing run out of draw distance. The next time they come around, they'll likely be targeting the placement you were just on.

They were tweaked in a patch, and then tweaked again I think, there was a point were jets were almost useless, then jets were good but could be stopped by the AA.
Tracers completely took the skill out of the anti tank class though, now all you do is shoot it with that lame tracer dart and then anyone can peg it. Also sitting behind a building and shooting up and hitting tanks on the other side of the building shouldn't be possible.
Good point, my favorite was blowing it up with a c4 jeep, either it blew up or flipped the jet over making the pilot crash. Another favorite thing of mine was getting in the pilot of a helicopter, some jackass gets in inplace of my friend, I fly him to the edge of the map, he dies and I go pick up my friend.
And good time were had by all.
Seriously though how the hell do you fix jet/helo queuing? I just don't see a way around it other than making jets/helos not fun.
I mean, if I die in a helicopter and I go back for it an 4 people are waiting for it, fuck them I am getting it again. I don't really care, I am not taking turns. As far as a team is concerned I am much better with it than they are anyways, whoever can get in first gets it, and I always got in first (knowing where to stand, holding E or whatever) anyways because most people are dumb. If you aren't smart enough to queue up for a vehicle you don't get it.
Tracer darts are one of the coolest things. I was so happy when I tagged my first helo and saw 3 rockets fly at it.
Nowadays tracers are largely negated with smoke. The devs really need to nerf that.
Ehh, not such a problem really. Just go the assault class and spam the things, there's likely still ways around it but most of them require a fair bit of teamwork which is as it should be. Of course if your team is made up of god damn inbred rejects who still don't know how to lock on even when you've got three or four tracers sitting on the damn thing well there's no hope for it.
Also.
No Tracers.
Jets.
Yeah. Think i might stick with BC2. Bugger getting carpet bombed to death 24/7 on the maps. Maybe if they brign in some sort of infantry portable heat seeker for the anti-tank class.
I imagine they'll be putting in more of an effort to balance jets vs infantry combat. I too loathed trying to cap a point on wake island, only to feel my heart sink as the familiar roar of a jet turbine signaled my impending obliteration.
Also; I'm not so excited about Karkand. Now if it were Sharqi Peninsula, that'd be a different story!
I loved the idea of a commander, I think they could do it so much better now. The way the commander could talk to squad leaders and then squad leaders talk to their squad. I just don't see what else a commander could really do as far as abilities go, supply drops....?

Not perfect but there were ways around that, if you saw the jet you could position yourself to avoid the blast. Like if the jet is coming at you the bombs are going to drop a certain way and you can attempt to avoid them like that. It worked some of the time.
So hey here's a bunch of stuff out of the GameInformer article: link.
Those screenshots look so good.
Also stuff from article:
-Aiming for CY Q4 2011 release
-Concept for BF3 has been in the works for years, waiting on proper tech to seamlessly come together
-Frosbite 2.0 is the culmination of this tech, entirely re-written
-Lighting sounds neat, one "probe" contains more lighting information than an entire BFBC2 level.
-Level destruction is going to be "believable" but basically everything is destructible.
-Character animations powered by ANT, what EA Sports uses.
-AI characters and multiplayer characters have different animation sets
-No more "gliding" animations that look off, animation realism is a focus
-Captured their own war audios (bullets, tanks, helicopters, etc) at different distances to ensure realism
-Better audio cues for certain actions, more easily able to listen for threats
-Plan on better, more immediate post release content
-More unlocks than BFBC2
-Dice trying to find a good balance between customization of your character and not having "pink rabbit hat(s)"
-4 classes
-Will talk about squads "later"
-Looking into a theater mode but can't talk about it
-Will have co-op
-There will be a kill-cam but it can be turned off
-BF3's team is almost twice as big as the team for BFBC2
-They want the pacing of the single player mode to be balanced, with highs and lows. Makes the comparison to a song vs a guitar solo.
-Part of the single player mode takes place in Sulaymaniyah - Iraqi Kurdistan.
-"lalalala" will be used often, so M rates for sure
-There will be an earthquake in a level. The destruction sounds very impressive. 7 story building collapses, looks very well done
-Significant narrative that goes with the SP mode
-More than one setting, you're not in the middle east for the whole game
-PC version is lead version
-Why 64 players for PC only? No complains from the console crowd.
-No mod tools at release. Maybe none down the line either. Frosbite 2.0 is complex and mods tools would have to be dumbed down, so does Dice really want to put their time to that or would it be better spent elsewhere?

Unlocks are fun, as long as they are done like in Modern Warfare, I mean even BC2 wasn't that bad but a class should be mostly functional starting the game.
I just hope infantry is an even bigger part of this game, BC2 had it about right. I mean some maps were downright stupid in BF2, 16 players on a team with 2 jets, 2 helicopters, 2 tanks, an APC and some humvees... What the fuck? For 16 players there should be a max of maybe 4 vehicles.
I liked BC2 single player as it was pretty fun. Not amazing or anything but it was very competent and the characters were cool.
The sound is probably what I am looking forward to the most cause damn to they have a impressive sound engine. I mean it has actual distant visual effect followed by the report.
This thread, it can't be on the second page, there is too much excitement to hold this thread back. I wonder what factions there will be this time. I remember way back before BF2 came out people were thinking that there was going to be a terrorist type faction (am I even thinking of the right game?) and it would be a more asymetrical game where they relied more on hit and run and ambushes than straight up fights and that sort of thing. Turns out they were all nearly identical.

I make no distinction between the two.

Or a version of Titan mode
I would kill for more titan mode

-fully functioning bug free server browser at launch
Am I an asshole? Maybe.

Never gonna happen. This wouldn't be a DICE game otherwise.
pffffffbwahahaha that's a good one.
What next? Proper game balance and/or timely updates and fixes, or some other crazy idea?

Yeah full upgrade will be instore for me on this game. Hopefully I am not living in Alaska when this comes out.

Everyone knows battlefield is only fun when you are griefing other people.
I can't wait to play on the same map with different rules!
Heh.
Also the idea of even more unlocks over BC2 doesn't inspire passion for me. Maybe this time they'll make you unlock your first primary weapon too.

Naked Fisticuffs for the first 10 levels.
You've unlocked: Sharp Stick!

No, no. A point-ed stick!

I mean, the multiplayer from MOH was overall pretty lame, but the sound design was some of the best I've ever heard in a game.
