Nexus One, desktop cradle, and speakerphone

I have a Nexus one that I usually leave on the desktop cradle while I'm at home. Whenever I receive a call and it's on the cradle, I pick it up off the cradle, and answer immediately, it goes into speakerphone mode automatically.
If I pick up the phone, wait a couple of seconds, and then answer, speakerphone is not enabled.
I can not find the setting to disable this. How can I?
