Newish Brit comedy: recommend on
LibrarianThe face of liberal fascismRegistered Userregular
I only recently discovered Peep Show, which means I am late to the show but got a lot of funny episodes to watch now.
I'd like some more recommendations of British comedy shows of let's say the last 5 years.
I probably know most of the older stuff, so please don't recommend Black Adder or Red Dwarf or Faulty Towers or something.
Other stuff I am familiar with:
Spaced
Father Ted
Garth Merengi
Black Books
Mighty Boosh
Little Britain
League of Gentlemen
Probably some more I can't think of right now.
Is My Hero with Ardal O'Hanlon any good?
EDIT: Before I forget cause people will probably recommend that one, I know The Office.
Not the last five years, but Teachers was excellent back in the day. In a similar vein The Inbetweeners is much the same setting but with a younger cast.

I'm watching Hyperdrive right now, it's pretty funny. Some episodes are sadder than others though.
'Outnumbered' is one of the better British comedies about at the moment. You know a Brit comedy is good when the Yanks start running up an adaptation of it.
I've not yet gotten round to watching it, but 'The Thick Of It' is also reckoned to be excellent. Can't tell you anything about it though.
And finally I'll second 'Green Wing'. It's absolutely hilarious.
Also good stuff: The Trip, and even though it's not strictly a comedy, Misfits.
And though it's on the older side, all the Alan Partridge stuff. Mid and late 90s into the early 2000s, not 80s like Red Dwarf and Blackadder. Too few people have seen what is basically the template that most good modern sitcoms and comedies draw from.
IT Crowd, Garth Marenghi's Darkplace, Man to Man with Dean Lerner and Snuff Box.
They all star Matt Berry and I love that guy. Darkplace and Man To Man exist in the same universe and the six (amazing) episodes of Darkplace should be watched first.
A friend of mine is really into British comedy and wrote a introduction guide to some of the contemporary series here.
Some you've seen, some you havent. Spaced, Peep Show, Black Books, The IT Crowd, and The Thick of It.
I'd also throw in QI (Quite Interesting), which is a "British comedy panel game television quiz show created and co-produced by John Lloyd, hosted by Stephen Fry, and featuring permanent panellist Alan Davies." The quiz show aspect is very loose, with points that don't matter, and most of they time is spent off on tangents. It's absolutely delightful.
Extras is also excellent from the few episodes I've caught.

Thanks for all the great suggestions, I ordered some box sets of Inbetweeners, the IT Crowd and Hyperdrive.
I found some fun clips of Charlie Brooker on youtube, but unfortunately I can't find any dvds on amazon, what's up with that?

Bit more documentary and less sitcom, but find anything you can by Charlie Brooker - Screenwipe, Newswipe, How TV Ruined Your Life. All amazing.
Oh god, also seconding anything Charlie Brooker's done

Anyone want to beta read a paranormal mystery novella? Here's your chance.

with a vengeance
It's not as 'smart' as the other suggestions, but I think it's hilarious

Seriously, though. Watch Darkplace.
The Thick of It is also the best recommendation you'll get.
The best.
Peep Show is good, too.
I can't recommend it enough. A miserable Irishman and a hippy Jesus lookalike make a surprisingly good double-act. Also books.
EDIT: Oh bugger you already listed it...Brass Eye is just about the pinacle of satire, well worth a look.

anyone who told you different is wrong.
it is the funniest thing England has ever done
This. These shows are great and BBC America needs to show them more often.
The kind of things he gets celebrities to say in Brass Eye is unbelievable. "One girl threw up her own pelvis bone, before she snuffed her lid."
