How good is the DS as a web browser? Is it capable of doing anything more than just *looking* at the interweb?
In particular, I'm curious if it has any value as a moblogging tool. I have a PDA(Clie)/keyboard setup for mobile word-processing, and I'm wondering if there is any way to interface the DS with my handheld, or its memory stick, so I can use it as a handy way to upload/post .txt files I've written on my Clie.
Any other cool DS WiFi hacks/workarounds would be great to hear about...
It's out in Europe. I was thinking of picking it up while I'm here, but the DS doesn't like the security settings of the wireless network I have here so I wouldn't have much use for it. I'd like to know about how it works if anyone has it though, since it's not in the states for some reason.
it's okay. Flash doesn't work...if you get a flash drive for the DS you can put txt files on it. I dunno about like synching it up with your handheld and waht not but yeah
I got the DS Browser (I am living in Europe) just because of morbid curiousity and I just needed a device for couch surfing - another reason is that my G3 iBook broke last year.
The Interface of opera DS is pretty good, even if it looks a bit strange the first time you boot it up. Personally I have nothing bad to say about this aspect.
The downside of the DS browser is the slowness. Somehow you can feel that the DS wasn't designed with webbrowsing in mind. It loads if you zoom (this is especially annoying), it loads if you change viewing modes, it stops if you save the site you are viewing in the favourites - these are just a few examples. Build in cache is non existant, so prepare to load the whole site again if you hit the back button.
If you use the "dual screen - eliminate hscroll mode" the performance is really sluggish. Often you scroll past the target area because the program can't keep up. Its even more noticeable if you use the D-Pad to navigate the site - once most of the site is loaded the D-Pad is very handy for navigation.
In the "Overview mode" (nearly the whole site you are visiting is displayed on one of the screens, a zoomed view is displayed on the other) the performance isn't that bad but loading times are also pretty long. in this mode you have to fight h-scroll which makes reading PA and forums a pain.
The DS is good if you don't have a laptop and just need to access the Internet to check mails etc. on-the-go. Unfortunally because the DS only supports WEP you are pretty limited concerning your choise of access points.
Opera DS displays most pages without much problems - at least if you don't visit ones which are build using flash or java applets. (These are not supported)
Wow, and to think I almost traded in my PSP for a DS. I guess I can just add this as yet one more reason to be glad I held on to it.
I know what you mean. I use mine for web browsing everyday. Sounds like the DS web browser is a hassle. If it ever hits stateside I still want to try it out though.

You got a link to that?
I completely forgot about the opera browser. I figured since it wasn't in the US yet they canceled it for us.

Because the intarweb on the DS would devour our sweet, innocent young.
Porn, right out of thin air!
VAGINAS OF DOOM!
The DS is a sex machine. With two screens.
Foursome when you include the Wii.
For orgies, include PSP.
