MacBook to TV DVI sound issue

RyanReddRyanRedd Registered User regular
When plugging in my MacBook Pro to my Sony HD TV with a DVI cable male to male cable, I am getting picture but no audio.

In my sound preferences an alternate output option other than the internal speakers is not available.

Please help and good gaming.

That's good. That's a good one.

DVI is video only. You won't get audio from it. However, the audio-out port on Macbooks is also an optical out. this cable should do ya.

The audio out for headphones also often works as analog line-out. I use a normal 1/8" stereo male-to-male analog cable out to my TV like this in combination with a DVI->HDMI out from my MBP.

Needs an analog audio input coupled to DVI/VGA in on the TV, of course.
