So, I couldn't help but pick up MAG as it was £3.99 and, well, what the hell, right? Picking it up made a whole bunch of sense as I've been playing FPS games for years and years. I've probably playing the wider genre for more hours than any other and playing most of the different type of games the genre has to offer (from the original Ghost Recon and Rainbow Six games to Day of Defeat to Modern Military Shooter 24). PC, console, whatever.
But I don't get MAG, and I'm thinking I never will. Though at the price I can't say I've been too heartbroken about it, I'm still feeling frustrated.
Mechanically, there isn't anything specifically wrong with the game. Aiming feels fine and all that, no different than any other modern console shooter (although the controls take some minor mental hurdling considering most games have borrowed from the CoD model, and with good reason I reckon), and the idea is wonderful even if you only ever feel like you are in small skirmishes rather than these larger conflicts. But there is just something off about the gameplay that makes me wonder if its just me starting out in the game (having only played about 2 hours and am about a level 5 Valor). Am I playing the wrong modes? Did I join the wrong faction? Are the maps just bad? Everything about this game seems like it would make for a game I'd enjoy, and yet when I play it, this inexplicable soulless feeling washes over me, even though I genuinely want to enjoy this (and will keep trying until I either enjoy it or I break). Maybe I need to play with dudes... any PA Euros still playing this on Valor (PSN: liquidlogan)?
Am I just doing it wrong? This is not a troll thread.

along with that it does take a good squad and a good squad leader. a good leader will choose the right objectives and position the squad in prime spots to keep the situation under control or push forward through the defence.
The PA players (that I know of) in Valor are...
Malechai (US)
Craptastic-J (US?)
SteadiestShark* (UK)
SciencePiggy* (me) (CAN)
* extra character slot, currently inactive
Unfortunately the PA clan is on life support so you are very late to the party in that regard. However I can try to answer any specific questions you have and try to group up (timezone permitting). However my main char is now in SVER.
Also in my experience all the people who seemed to know what they were doing tactically/strategically were on SVER, all the whiney babies who wanted to be tacticool went Raven, and then Valor were all the people who didn't fit into the other two categories.
MAG with people? Awesome.
HOWEVER.
If you're playing with whatever random squad you've been assigned to because you aren't in a party? The game is absolutely balls terrible.
I've been met with some success lately on Raven (gasp!) with the PUGs (gasp x 2!). Since everyone from PA abandoned Raven long ago and I'm level 30 it's my only option.
It takes a little bit for MAG to click and you start getting decent XP per match.
If you don't mind re-rolling Raven you can shoot mans with me (PSN in sig). I try to play around 1700 or so GMT-5.

Keenbean, I'll be happy to re-roll as Raven since you've started playing it again. Maybe we can get something going this weekend?
I can never find any of you guys online. And I idle in the Deployment screen for hours.
To the OP: you've got to find a solid team. I've never had that same feeling in any other game then when 1-2 dozen [PA] are rolling together. Full squads of [PA]. [PA] tags all the way up the chain of command.
Glorious.
Let's do this.
Shame really because I would like to play it, but can never find it for a price that screams "buy me now".
I think the biggest thing to keep in mind is that despite the similarities with other shooters, MAG is a very different beast from your typical shooter. I also play Bad Company 2 with some regularity, but I find if I try to swap off I get rather frustrated pretty quickly. Just take it slow, find a few folks to play with, and don't be a lone wolf. About all I can suggest.
Oh, and maybe reroll to SVER, I started on Valor and ended up hating it. I may vet to Raven though, time will tell.
Origin is the exact same as my Steam, in case you're needing a Support or Assault in BF3.
Send me a friend invite, I don't think I have you on my list. I was on the PSN for a few hours last night but the only people I saw on were playing that filthy BLOPS :P
Small problem, I'm once again employed. Work's backed up so, I'm currently working 6 days a week. That only leaves a small window of game time from noon (when I usualy wake up) to 3 to play or from 1 am to when ever. CST.
Was that price preowned at Gamestation online week-and-a-half ago, now up to a miserable £12.99.

I know I have you already on PSN, Malechai, but I'd be happy to join up with some of you guys if you don't mind having canon fodder following you around. Add me (PSN: liquidlogan); Try and include PA in the title or in the body of the friend request so I don't think its a random if I don't recognize your nickname.
Well not that I have time to play any more but I'm actualy in Valor trying my to get back to sevr some day. Just been too busy with other stuff.

I gave you officer rank so you can invite other cannon fodder \0/

I played early on so they may have altered things, but the 256-player battles, the selling point of the game, was the weakest part. That mode felt like utter chaos, and you spend a lot of time getting your ass handed to you until you understand the map. Depending on the skill levels of the opposition and your own team, you may never manage to get out of that stage. Which is ultimately why I stopped playing.
Overall, playing with people you know can elevate the experience a lot. Also, at least last time I played, straight assault is the least interesting route.
