I wonder how the multiplayer challenges handles handling modes. I'm playing Full Assistance and can fly around corners in any car so it wouldn't really be fair for me to race someone with Hardcore or whatever.

I'm so pissed at this game right now I had to stop playing to calm down. It's beyond my capability of understanding how they were able to fuck up the sequel to one my most beloved games.
Why did they have to completely take out the single race events and replace them with tedious license tests and championships instead? I just got to Hawaii and can't do anything because I can't pass the last part of the first license test.
It's like they took everything that made TDU fun and threw it in the garbage bin.

The single races are still in, when you spot a named car, tail it and flash your lights. Triggers an instant challenge. I think, never actually tried that :P
Instant challenges aren't what he meant by single races.
In TDU1 there were individual single-player events categorized by car class all over the map and you could do them any time you wanted. Then there are also taxi missions and vehicle dropoff missions and multiplayer events and instant challenging people you ran across, etc. In TDU2, all of the single-player races seem to be grouped into the license-restricted "championships."
Eh, there's races that others have created in the comunity centre. Which is probably not gonna be working. Because THE FUCKING SERVERS ARE STILL BLOODY DOWN!!! Dammit Atari, quit trying so hard to make me hate you.

There's tons of those challenges where you have to take someone somewhere or whatever all over the place.
Though you're going to have to pass the license tests eventually, which seems to be what he's complaining about. I just passed the A5-A4 license test (which is the one I think he was stuck on ) and yeah, it's hard as shit, but not impossible. You just gotta keep at it.
I can understand if you don't like the tests, but they're hardly throwing away everything that made the first game great. There's tons of stuff to do outside of the championships.
So when we say the severs are down, does it mean you can't connect to other players in free-drive, or can't connect to other players during an instant challenge or a multiplayer race?
Because while I haven't tried any multiplayer races yet, I do know that I'm encountering other players in free-drive (on the Xbox).

I have plenty of stuff in my backlog as to not be too annoyed about the servers, buuuut I would have appreciated a bloody notification that I couldn't log in, rather than the endless cycling at the start screen.

I don't know. Sometimes it means you can't even play the game. Sometimes you just can't use things like friends list. When I've been able to play, I've also seen other players, even though I can't use much else of the online stuff.
Immediately after last posting I was able to log on and play.
Unlocked the Cockpit Addict achievement and the Hard Earned Money one. The first requires driving 311miles in the cockpit view and the second reaching level 10 of FRIM. Also onto the classic car licenses.

Yeah, I got the cockpit addict one. Guess I should try to get my FRIM higher, I usually just bank at $100.
The only licenses I still need are the A3-A2 one and the A1. Not looking forward to those.
I can't decide if I'll like this or not. I wish there were a demo. I've read that it's no Forza, but how does the driving compare to Just Cause 2? I love cruising around in JC2, and that + other people sounds like win. All the reports of bugs and terrible handling, however, do not.
Basically I'm wondering if I'll bitterly curse the day I bought it.
If you liked JC2 driving then you'll love this. The handle takes a while but once it clicks you're powersliding around corners. Some cars take much more practise than others. Like I can't drive some of the classics for shit but others find them really easy.
edit: I settled for third on them and just made up for it in the regular stuff.

Uh oh guys, I think I'm about to drop the money on my first Ferrari.

I haven't played much yet, but as long as you turn the driving options to Hardcore it feels ok.
It's weird that they offer you one of the coolest cars ever right out of the gate, but I imagine most people don't know better and get the Mustang. Also, it sucks that I can't use it in the offroad races.

Yeah the Lancia is just so amazingly much better then all the others. There really does seem like there is a best car for all of the classifications. Lancia definitely top of the C4 pile.
H3? Ranger Rover? Man both of those are terrible the Touareg is the best of that range by far.
Range Rover was so much easier for me than those others. It's still one of my favorites to go offroading with -- the control on the rover is really nice -- it's very stable compared to other cars. Which, incidentally is what I did tonight -- my friend and I cruised around Ibiza -- offroading everywhere. Played follow the leader, went up some mountains (even off the dirt path). Felt so good, revving up the hill.
I guess maybe I'm partial to the rover because it has a lot of space. Customized it -- it's Aqua Blue with 2 of those fish stickers on the side, put some white bubbles on there. It's the Marine Machine.
FFffffffffffffff god damnit the hour long checkpoint trial across all of ibitha is so daunting but shit if 1,000,000 bucks and a free super car isnt tempting..
I've been playing until 4 am almost everyday since i got it. Just discovering the roads.
Also gonna start ordering the parts for the new PC now, well as soon as someone tells me its all compatible in the computer build thread. FYI, going for a similar build to yours Sir carcass.
Pulled the trigger on this. 24% downloaded. I guess I'm not missing much, though. Just the usual chaos associated with mmo launches.
Just think what the developers are going through. "People are buying our game! Hooray!" "Wait, people are playing our game!" "We're not prepared for this! Panic!"

I never asked for this!

I have a lot of thoughts on my playtime but I'll probably sleep on it and post my opinons in the morning.

Also I spin out quite a bit.
Edit: After trying a few times it finally let me in, so I guess don't give up.
