UFC 67 will officially start in a couple hours. The sport is becoming increasingly popular, so are there others here who are going to be watching it on Pay Per View or at bars?
I know I'm pumped because CroCop is making his debut at the UFC. For those who dont know, CroCop is a huge name over in Japan, and he is considered the #2 heavyweight fighter in MMA. UFC doesn't have a very interesting heavyweight division right now, so bringing in a guy like this is a big deal.
So I watched the UFC show on Spike TV and it was just a bunch of beefy guys hugging eachother on the octagon floor and punching eachother from time to time until one was too fatigued to hug the other any longer.

that's the impression I got from the show.
Well you are not alone in that impression.
The wrestling component of UFC can seem pretty boring, since nobody is moving a lot, often not much happens for several minutes. Once you actually start to watch it you get more of an appreciation for it however. There are a huge number of moves and countermoves from grounded positions. And while it may not look terribly impressive, it can be interesting and yes even exciting.
Or it could have just been a boring match, those happen too. Regardless, the real action is in the stand up fighting, of which there should be plenty tonight.

The reason I watched the show was because a friend showed me a video on youtube of a guy running up to the other guy and knee-dropping him in the face like 10 times. I was like
Keeping your opponent on the ground is the most practical thing to do in the ring. It sure as hell ain't flashy by any means, but it gets the job done.

Yeah thats why most people develop an interest for it. You should check it out more often. That kind of crazy stand up action happens fairly frequently actually. This guy CroCop that I'm hyping is known for his devastating left kicks; he kicks the opponent in the head really hard, and they fall down, end. Another guy joining the UFC is nicknamed Rampage. His bit is he lifts is opponent above his head, jumps, then slams the guy into the mat as hard as he can. He's knocked several people out doing this.
And the current middleweight champ (Silva) got the belt by breaking the previous guys nose in the first round. Good stuff.

Anderson Silva ftw!. That guy's Muay Thai is unstoppable.
Yeah he's going to win. Plus that moron Lutter didn't even make wieght. So even if Silva loses, he keeps his belt.
I dont see him losing though.[/quote]
I didn't know that. Lutter's good n' all, but he seems like a 1 trick pony. And I think Silva is agile and smart enough not to go to the ground. But if he did, I think he's also skilled enough to be able to protect himself.
The orginization is Japanese, but it is very international. PRIDE is like that too. Its basically UFC in Japan, only much more popular. A russian holds the heavyweight belt, Brazillian holds middle, american holds welter and the lightweight is japanese.
Big white people going to Japan to beat up all the little people
Pretty much yeah. I always wonder how the Japanese feel about that, but they seem fine, the big names in PRIDE are celebrities regardless of their nationality or race.

The guys are more attractive, for one

Especially in the north south position. It looks dangerously close to a 69 at times.

Anderson Silva will destroy him on the feet however Lutter is the superior grappler.
CroCop will break Sanchez.
Rampage will destroy Eastman.
The next few cards I am even more excited for though. A bunch of guys from my gym will be fighting.
As it is, I'll have to get this by other means
