a buddy of mine who is not tech savvy posted this to his facebook:
needs to know if any of his tech-savvy friends can help him trouble shoot an iPad. When emails come with .pdf attachments, the iPad will preview those .pdfs just fine, but when the "Open in iBooks" button is pressed, iBooks opens but the .pdf does not, and the .pdf is not stored in iBooks. Help?

It is not his gadget, so smashing it doesn't work.

anybody got any advice? or suggestions?

Tough for me to answer this without seeing what's happening, but I can shotgun some ideas...

iBooks may not be updated to the PDF viewing version -- open the App Store to check for updates.

If it's going to a blank shelf when he loads he may not be giving it enough time -- opening a PDF takes a noticeable pause.

There's a button in the top left that says "Collections." If there's an option for PDFs they may be under that.
