Sound Recording Software

I'm looking for a program that will allow a person to play audio from any source and record the sound as it passes through their sound card to their hard drive. Format is unimportant. I've done some looking on google, but many of the products returned look... well... suspect at best.

Would anyone here be able to recommend such a program?

That would be the correct assumption, and I'll look for it. Thanks for the reply.

So you want to capture audio that's being played, correct? You actually need something like TotalRecorder, assuming you're using Windows. if you're using OS X, you can use Soundflower and Audacity for free as well.

I'm using windows. A free product would be ideal, but something less than free is allright.

Audacity has a Windows version, too. It should work.
