My McAfee subscription has ended so updates to the firewall has ended and on top of that every damn couple of hours it wants me to verify my subscription which is annoying while playing a game as clicking where the box is in under the game screen minimizes the game screen.
Anyway, I was wondering if Window's firewall was adequate I don't need a shit ton of features or anything but I wanted to know if it comparable to ones you have to pay for or if it's a piece of shit or anything.
Also, I guess I need an anti virus program too since I can't seem to find a default one in the security center. What do you recommend.
Hoo boy... I know I'm going to catch shit for saying this (always do)...
Windows Firewall is good-enough though unnecessary if you have a hardware router. And you don't need an anti-virus either. It's possible to stay safe on the internet without sacrificing system performance.
I use PC-cillin. It doesn't slow down my computer but I have a beast of a computer so I may just be unable to tell. Anyway, it's solid. It has a crappy built in spyware scanner but the virus scanner and firewall is great.

I will agree. With my Linksys router I find Windows firewall to be very sufficient. Don't forget to still run a good virus scanner once in a while(I use Avast) and Adaware.

This is true. A simple NAT router will protect you from the automated worms that plague Windows. If you use a secure web browser and e-mail client as well (Firefox, Thunderbird, Opera, etc) you should be fine.
Of course, if you make habit of downloading cracked software, you'll want something heavier.
