Look, I'm sorry that all the sex has prevented you from enjoying all the violence. I wish you all the luck in designing a game with ideal female characters. Seriously, that's the only way you're going to change things. I doubt any complaints will get these developers to scrap all the animation they've done so far.

Oh come on now, that's not what those who complain want. I guess they would like some toning-down, but they don't actually want utterly inoffensive or "neutral" character design.
I was too busy staring at the hips and tits to notice any pandering, me.
I thought I told you to stop making hoary old arguments, Henroid.
Yes, lesbians/bisexuals exist, Henroid. That is coincidental, and I'm sure even those women don't appreciate being portrayed as tits and panty shots a majority of the time. So fucking what it's 2012? Sexism and misogyny still exist. But it's 2012 and we have flying cars and shit. That's just a really weird argument to make, Henroid.
Note that this doesn't necessarily make the designers bad, rotten people. It's an inherent flaw of our culture that many folks are unaware of. We need to point out if anything is going to be done about it.
This is officially going beyond the scope of this thread, as the conversation meanders from the focus of the game. Feel free to PM me or start up a thread in D&D if you wish to discuss this further. Not that you can't touch on character design at all, but I think we're reaching that inevitable point where the only place to take the conversation from here is off-topic from this thread.
EDIT: Haha, I kinda quashed ContentContext's argument without having read it.

On topic of character design; I like that there's no dupes. No Ken and Ryu, no Sub Zero and the 5 other Sub Zeroes. Every character has a very distinct design, they all move and attack in distinct ways, they each have a unique feel.
(I just don't want you guys to start talking technicalities. I'm a scrub. I dunno that stuff. :<)
Oh brilliant

That's a shitty way to ensure you get the last word, Rorus. :?
Someone mentioned earlier they'd release male characters. Will they? Have they confirmed this somewhere? I figured they were going for a completely female cast, including whatever DLC characters come up. The only male character I could see included would be a trap like Bridget, which given how heavily they're borrowing from Guilty Gear, I wouldn't be surprised.
That was me! They haven't made any of their plans official or anything but in the Skullgirls thread in SRK the developers post regularly and one of them said that they intended to include male characters as some of the planned DLC characters. But you know, they also planned to launch with 10, not 8, characters if memory serves. So, nothing is set in stone but, it seems that they intend to have male characters at some point.
If getting in the last word on an internet discussion is that important to you, Henroid, then go ahead. You, and you alone, may respond to my post. I really don't care either way.
No Ken and Ryu, no Sub Zero and the 5 other Sub Zeroes.
To be fair, both of those franchises have done some really great work to differentiate those characters over time and add some actual flair to the designs. MK9 especially has done some incredible work design wise on making all those characters not just look like pallete swaps.
How kind will this game be for those of us with 'stupid fingers'? Is this strictly a by tourney players, for tourney players scenario? That's my big concern, besides not buying into the setting yet.

Pretty good in the grand scheme of fighting games, actually. The game has an emphasis on cancels over links (as a result you should run into less difficult 1 or 2 frame timing combos). The game intentionally has simplified inputs (no pretzels, no double motions for supers, no 720s) which helps as well. The most difficult motion in the game is probably a 360 for Cerebella's super throw, but the developer went so far as to make sure to include "jump protection" into the 360 motion. If the game detects you are doing a 360 you will not jump, no matter how slowly you input the 360 motion, making the input far more lenient. Some characters are going to be more input demanding than others, of course.
The game however, is a six button fighter, and a good amount of simultaneous presses are used for tags, assists, supers and things of that nature, so, it is probably not the most pad friendly game ever made.
Rorus, I don't know what you did to me, other than agree that the discussion was getting derailed. I bumped this thread, because I'm excited about a quality game that's close to release. You want to make a thread discussing broader issues? Go for it.
I'd consider playing Parasoul, if I didn't suck at charge characters. I dropped Chun Li in SF4, entirely because of the change to her fireball.

That's good news. The 6 button thing is fine (i have a stick). I asked because recent fighters (ssf4 and mvc3) i could only handle a small portion of the overall cast (in ssf4, i could only do honda/dhalsim for instance), because i suck at strict timings and riverdancing on the joystick in general. I may actually pay closer attention then. That peacock character seems fun.
SSF4 I could understand (hate the links in that game) but MVC3 seemed pretty straightforward, with its combo system. Only reason I didn't get into it was a lack of MVC2 experience.

You're not missing a damn thing. MvC3 has one rule; Wesker wins.
Say what you will about the character design, but they certainly do have a charm, and there's plenty of surprisingly classy fan-made material on Reverge's official site that shows it off well. . .
On SRK one of the game's reps said that a March 31 date that popped up somewhere was a Q1 placeholder, but wasn't far off from the actual date. I'm guessing mid to late March.

I think I kind of have to applaud anyone willing to try to make their own 2-d fighter in this day and age, especially if you happen to be basically a nobody studio that was started up specifically just to do this. I'm not exactly wowed with the character art, but I think I would be if the characters didn't mostly share the same body mass. But, again. 2-d fighter by a scrappy startup. It's a little understandable that there are some limitations they may be operating in, even if they're doing their best to try to conceal it.
I swear I saw some shots from this game somewhere where there's a fighter that's basically the girl from the Ring, only she's hanging out of the tv set and the tv walks around and everything. Haven't seen that lately, I hope that's really in there somewhere. It was a pretty good parody and a better concept for a novelty fighter to have.
Oh, hey, this game already has a thread, cool. So did anyone else hear how they're going to reveal the final character and give her a walkthrough some time tomorrow?
Also @ linespider5: Actually, what you saw was one of peacock's attacks, where she drops a random object from the sky. one of them is a television that has fillia dressed as the girl from the ring pop out. she also drops a ton of other weird things including Dio brando's Steam roller (though it only has a small chance of showing up)
Sigh. I wish this game had taken a different direction artistically so I could just be excited about an indie 2D fighter instead of having to debate whether or not I should make a purchase. Has there ever been anything said about how much this will cost?
I am seriously baffled by how off put people are by this game's art style. But then again art is an incredibly small part of why I like fighting games.
Personally I'm really let down by the Double character. A character that recycles moves as one of your characters in a roster of 8? That doesn't look good at all.
Actually from what I've read it seems like those moves aren't actually part of what the current roster has now and are instead moves that were on the cutting room floor from the other characters.
You can really tell that someone from mechafetus worked on this game from the intro.

I believe that's only some of her moves. Regardless, I've always hated mash-up style characters like Necrid or Seth. Really sad to see Double instead of a possibly more unique character like Umbrella or Squiggly, personally.
From the video, it looks like recycled normals and unique/salvaged specials. I'd rather have a wholly original character for the initial roster, but she might have an interesting play style. It shouldn't be too long before the character walkthrough.
Though I'm not sure if paul robertson is working on this game.

True.
Really it's a hilarious twist on having shape-shifters in fighting games. And what it means to be a shape-shifter in the first place; turns out it's a horrific blob of "what the fuck." I also like the idea that you don't just morph into another character to play as them, and instead moves you use mimic the other characters just for that attack.
At least the price is decent. And on the bar of shamefulness, it's not like...Rumble Roses, or DOA Volleyball or anything. But it's still up there a bit, what with over half the starting roster (and the tutorial lady) being outright T&A. My disappointment with the art direction isn't entirely about that though. I enjoyed Bayonetta, how could it be? Personally I just hate the design of some of them in general, like Filia and Cerebella (as I said back when this thread first began). Thankfully it didn't end up being a cast full of chicks fighting each other with their hair, though, like I worried about when they were among the only character reveals.

Auw, Double is recycled sprites? I thought she looked great before you guys dropped that knowledge bomb on me. A real nightmare monster type deal.

. . .Cheezburger?
I will now never, ever prejudge a game based on that again, because Bayonetta is the best game to come out for the xbox 360 to date

Valentine trailer.
Since when does gametrailers do 60fps video? Looks like 60 anyway.

C'mon, it's not that shameful. :P
