I'm doing a book project for one of my modules wherein i have to produce a 32 page illustrated children's book. I've never actually gone through this process before so i have a question.
I've been told to produce 16 double page spreads to be submitted, so like 2 pages per spread.
But i'm sure i'm doing it wrong. If i have a spread, is one side page 1 and the other page 2, or is one side page 1 and the other page 32?
Like, how does something like this all piece together?
It depends how you're going to bind the book - 1. slide binder, 2. comb binder, 3. every 4 pages stitched together (like a real book), 4. glued edge on like a paperback, 5. folded together or 6. all piled on top of each other and stapled in the middle. You need to decide that first, then that will determine your layout.
If its 1, 2 or 4, you need to have sheet of paper 1 with page 1 on the front, page 2 on the back, sheet of paper 2 with page 3 on the front and page 4 on the back and so on, making 16 sheets of paper in total.
If its 3, 5 or 6, you need to have sheet of paper 1 in landscape, divided vertically into 2, with page 16 on the left, page 1 on the right of the front, then on the back, page 2 on the left, page 15 on the right; sheet of paper 2 with page 14 on the left, page 3 on the right, then on the back, page 4 on the left, page 13 on the right; sheet of paper 3 with page 12 on the left, page 5 on the right, on the back, page 6 on the left, page 11 on the right; sheet of paper 4 with page 10 on the left, page 7 on the right, and on the back page 8 on the left, page 9 on the right.
If that doesn't make sense, old 4 sheets in landscape, fold them in half to make a book, then number each page in pencil from 1 to 16. Open it all out, then you'll see.
