Odd computer issue

I recently realized that my hard drive is constantly writing and opened up task manager and found that lsass.exe is the culprit. Searches on google groups yields lots of people posting about this issue, and the fact that it is a legitimate Microsoft app doing legitimate Microsoft writes, however it seems very unnecessary. Does anyone know how to stop this, as it seems like the general consensus is to not shut it off.

I would greatly appreciate a solution to this as now that I noticed the sound of my hard drive doing this, I can't stop hearing it. Thanks.
