Holy Shit, Arcade Fire just won the Grammys.

“The Suburbs” was awarded the top album prize -- album of the year -- at the 53rd Grammy Awards on Sunday night. The album is the third from Canadian indie rock outfit Arcade Fire, and the award was one of three trophies the band was up for.
“The Suburbs,” released by Chapel Hill, N.C., label Merge, landed on numerous critics' best-of album lists, including writers from The Times.
The awards — which are considered the highest honor in the music world — were presented at Staples Center and telecast on CBS. Check back for more on Awards Tracker.
While I like The Suburbs quite a bit, The Suburbs < Neon Bible < Funeral.

I have no idea who or what Arcade Fire is.
I suppose a band if they cleaned up at the Grammys. Teach me about them, currently empty thread.

Judging by the song they played (not the last one, which sounded like the producers of the Grammys just fell apart), it seemed incredibly repetitive and.. off. I assume that isn't what all their work is like?

People have fucked up expectations when it comes to Arcade Fire songs, just because they're Arcade Fire, but I really think anyone reading this thread who isn't familiar with them should give all of their albums a shot. Their songs are great, but taken as a whole, their albums are incredible.

On topic: this is good! Arcade Fire is awesome.
I don't know if it's as good as Funeral, but it's definitely streets ahead of Neon Bible.
Yup. Gettin' my tattoo removed as we speak.:P

This is an awesome, awesome upset. So happy for them.
You have to be joking.
Here.

I'm glad Katy Perry and that moronic elevator-music I'm too drunk band didn't win though.
This is literally the only song on The Suburbs I enjoyed.

Looking at the past few years, it looks like it's batting around .500 or so.

Golden Globes, by far.
The Grammys are bad, no doubt, but don't forget about crap like the CMAs and ACE awards and Peoples' Choice Awards.
The Grammys are generally just a popularity/sales contest, but at least honestly.
It's hit or miss at this point. Here's the past 10 winners.
Esperanza Spalding
Zac Brown Band
Adele
Amy Winehouse
Carrie Underwood
John Legend
Maroon 5
Evanescence
Norah Jones
Alicia Keys
I recognize a few names as more than single album flare outs.
Esperanza Spalding is going to be getting death threats from teenage girls
I don't want to live in this world.

Or did they? I don't remember for sure. All I know is there was not nearly enough Mumford & Sons love at the Grammys.

No, it's not honest.. That was what Kanye's comment about Swift's win was all about.
Arcade Fire is pretty much the only band that lets me put on a hipster hat and say I liked them before they were popular. Good for them.
I dunno, I kinda feel like they won for Funeral, not for Suburbs
I'm not a huge fan of AF but glad they won, feels like they have been around for a long time now.
Is Lady Antebellum good? Should I bother taking the 10secs it takes to find them on youtube?
But seriously, though, JAZZ (the best music genre) won over teen pop and hiphop
this is
like, amazing
plus she's a damn good jazz artist.
ooh, ooh
no I disagree with this for sure
