Hey, so, does anyone know the pre-purchase incentives for US Amazon? I think the gamestop ones are pretty ugly, so I was wondering if there were other places to get them.
I think I'm going to go into lockdown mode for this just in case. Looking forward to it and any HL2EP3 references it may contain. About a month to go...
Steam - Portal 1 copy that can be gifted and $5 off and $20 off 2 pack
Steam UK - £3 off £30, £12 off 2 pack, Portal 1 copy that can be gifted
Amazon.com (US) - $5 off and ($5 amazon credit if preordered before 2/16/2011)
Amazon.co.uk (UK) - £5 off £35
Amazon.de (Germany) - Orange / Blue Plating armor
Newegg - Nothing Listed
Gamestop - $5 off and Scuba Armor
Walmart, Target, Bestbuy, Kmart - nothing listed
CDON.com (Denmark, Sweden, Norway and Finland) - Orange / Blue Plating armor
EB Games Australia -Portal Themed Rubix Cube
Not very excited about that scuba armor but the plating armor looks awesome. Too bad it isn't available in the US apparently...
I really want to get my girlfriend to play this but I'm having a hell of a time convincing her.
Her: I suck at first-person shooters.
Me: No, it's not really a first person shooter. Yes it's first-person, and you have a gun, but all that gun does is shoot holes in walls. Holes that are linked together. This isn't Black Ops where you have to worry about getting tomahawked from across the map in the first five seconds of a round.
I think I might get the PS3 version just so I can have someone play co op with me while I play the PC version. Though on some PC Gamer Master Race level I feel like I'm still betraying Valve here since the money is going to a bunch of other people than Valve if I go that route.

I gave mine Portal, she loves it and replays it nearly every week. She's very much looking forward to Portal 2 Co-op.

Just have her watch you play a couple of levels?
It's different for everybody. I tried to get my wife to play, but as she never played games before, the 3 dimensions being on a flat surface really threw her off. It was a very frustrating experience for her, trying to look around with a mouse instead of what felt natural, her head.
Now I just give her 2D games like PvZ and she enjoys them much more. She still enjoyed watching me play portal, though, so Portal 2 will be a must-watch for her.
I saw the preview for this at PAX East.
Best explanation for a voiceless player character ever.
For those of us that have no idea what PAX East preview you're talking about: explain.
Wheatly: Okay, there's a tiny chance that you may have some slight... massive... brain damage but I'm sure you're fine. Let's just do a quick test; say something.

Wheatly: Okay, that was a jump. Let's try something else; say 'apple' (goes on for several minutes that I'm not going to put in here)
[Press SPACE to say 'apple]
*jumps*
Wheatly: Well, close enough.

Is the PC not Chell anymore? because it sure seems that way

“We’ve had many creative kick-off meetings with agencies over the years, and you’d be shocked by the treatments that have come back. Copycat treatments. Cliché treatments. Treatments that reveal the agency wasn’t listening in the initial meeting.
The experience from all those TF2 shorts sure must have come in handy when making their own ad. Which reminds me, we've still got two of those left to go.
I mean I can sort of see what they mean as well. The ad that Valve made is clearly targeted around the idea of "hey, this is fun, let's have fun with physics". I can imagine that other ad campaigns would've tied to push a more action focussed or even darker angle. And almost certainly would've wanted to focus on human protagonists instead of the two robots.

I think that is exactly right. I'm really glad they went in-house with everything because no one knows their product better than themselves. It would be similar to movie trailers that look really hilarious then end up being very very dark humor. Or something.
Valve is hyping this game much more than Portal.., I hope it's as good.
Portal 1 was a test basically. They weren't sure how it would be received so they bundled it with 2 games that they knew would do well.
And like Nappuccino said this is a full game and apparently substationaly longer than portal 1.
4-5 times longer in fact (including both the singleplayer and coop campaigns) if Valve's estimates are to be believed. I think they might be a little inflated though.

Wait...if we factor in valve time, carry the one...Portal 2 is going to be about 6 years long. I can live with that.
Stop carrying the 1!! He's a big boy, and he can do things for himself now. We'll never know what heights he can achieve if you keep doing everything for him!

I totally agree. I was almost reading it in my mind with his voice. It just fits so well.
This is PS3, by the way.

According to the most recent Giant Bombcast they shot an interview with Erik Wolpaw, but it's not up on the site yet.
This. If that doesn't get her in the right frame of mind for this, nothing will.
I just pre-ordered on Amazon. You still get the Steam version if you get the PS3 one, yeah?
Yes, PS3 comes with Steam version.

I don't know why you say that.
Short but sweet.
I decided to break my media embargo since I figured this wouldn't spoil anything from the actual game. Pretty sure I'm right too.
Anyway, a little perspective on that, because Valve naturally did it themselves instead of hiring an ad agency.

Portal wasn't really their focus then and this is a full fledged game (supposedly)
