Really, the ps3 version is a pretty good deal. I wonder if you can gift the PC version that comes with it. Personally, I would keep it. A PC version kind of future proofs the game.
I am curious as to how much of a performance hit the pneumatic part is going to be. It seems like you are going to be tracking the physics on many objects there.
I saw in one of the videos that they bounce a block up and down on a platform. I assume they fudge the physics on that a little bit so it does not land on a corner. It is probably more like the box is a ball or something.
Edit: I just saw the part with the gels. I didn't know you can also funnel them around. I do wonder how much this is going to task a PC.
Dumb question, but the PS3 comes with a free steam copy right? So I could buy the PS3 version and just give the steam copy to a friend? Or is there's going to be some sort of limit that somehow ties your PSN ID to the Steam ID?

I don't think it's entirely known how it works. I've heard mentions of the PS3 copies just containing a Steam key, but the original press release mentions linking your PSN and Steam accounts.
Wonder no more how you will get the PC copy that comes with the PS3 version of Portal 2. The Steam translation server (a public thing for translating Steam to other languages) have the following pieces of text:
User has not played %gamename% on the PlayStation®3 system
and
Steam_SubscriptionCancelled_CDKey_MustLoginPS3
The product code you have entered requires that you first link your Steam account to a PlayStation®3 Network account and then connect to Steam while playing %gamename% on the PlayStation®3 system.
Those two strings give a decent idea of how the PS3 stuff will work. The chances of being able to give someone else the PC version of P2 seems low.
Looks like the PS3 copy is the Steam copy, it's one key across both platforms so you'll never be able to trade in your PS3 copy just like every other Steam game
Don't have to do shit. Is your comp, and therefore Steam, connected to the intertubes? Then you're already updated.
It was pretty awesome when it was going on.
A basic summary is that before Portal 2 was officially announced, Valve did a sneaky update to Portal without telling anyone (except for a patch note mentioning something about updating the game for radio compliance or something, I can't remember the exact line).
Anyway, the patch scattered a bunch of radios throughout the levels, each of which would start transmitting a message (usually in morse code) when you got it into the appropriate spot (so they were additional puzzles themselves sometimes as well).
Much finagling and puzzle solving later by various internet persons involved things like running the captured signals through old TV sets to get some unusual art suggesting a Portal continuation, and even a phone number to a BBS of all things. Which when accessed was apparently for Aperture labs, and started pumping out ASCII art versions of what eventually turned out to be Portal 2 screenshots and concept art (but even before then, looked pretty clearly Aperture related).
And finally Valve did one more update that subtly altered the ending. It's actually a really small change, but yeah, it was the biggest giveaway that this was all leading up to a sequel.
And then they officially announced the sequel.
EDIT:
The escapist has a rundown of the goings on. Believe me when I say games threads across the internet were going ballistic over all this stuff.

The info on the last page simply shows that you have to have a running PS3 connected to the internet in order to activate the PC version by linking your PSN and Steam accounts. It gives no indication on used copies. My guess is it will be Valve's version of the $10 pass thing EA does. Access to Steamworks requires a new copy, however it doesn't block used copies from running. This is still speculation however.
Rakai on
[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]XBL: Rakayn | PS3: Rakayn | Steam ID
Depends on the person and how adamant they are about the stuff they're into.
I remember when C&C Red Alert came out the manual had morse code on the bottom of the pages. decoded that and found that it was a transmission frm some base about giant killer ants. In the sequal, Counterstrike there was a secret campaign involving the kiling of giant killer ants. It was neat.
Question. How would a toshiba Satellite L675D-S7107 handle this game? I'm thinking of buying one to kinda replace my gaming rig desktop.
You'd be able to play it, but on low settings, I'd bet. What's your rig like right now?
It's an Intel Quad-core with 4GB of RAM. An old Radeon X1950 pro video card. I know it can handle Portal now and such. I'm just trying to go from Desktop to laptop for portability reasons. If the laptop can't handle it then I wont get it.
I'm trying to decide where I should preorder this.
Should I get it from Steam and get a free copy of Portal (that's useless to me.) but get it immediately when it comes out?
Should I spend an additional $5 and preorder it from Gamestop to get the yellow rollcage gear? (Both steam and gamestop have $5 off deal, but Gamestop has taxes and shipping to consider) and wait like a week or two to get it?
Should I spend an an extra $10 to get the PS3 version on Amazon and get a copy for both PS3 and PC?
Eh, actually, I think I'll just preorder it on Steam. Don't want to wait an age. Maybe I'll see if my friend wants to do a double pack.

All right, people. It is not a gerbil. It is not a hamster. It is not a guinea pig. It is a death rabbit. Death. Rabbit. Say it with me, now.
It may be done, but your waiting isn't. We're still a month away!
It's like adding a "Hard mode" to the game.

Not that I ever thought for a second that they would use a system that would introduce so many used PS3 copies on Day 1.
Do any ps3 games actually support kb&m?
I've heard Unreal Tournament 3 does. I haven't heard anything about Portal 2 doing so.
There's a new ending for Portal 1?
How do you get it and why nobody told me this?
Yeah
I mean, this was my guess how it worked all along because otherwise you'd have people buying the PS3 copy just to resell it
Very very very subtle difference.

A lappy that can run ME2 on a decent resolution should be fine, right?
Why I fear the ocean.
Aside from your laptop being not just sideways but also at a resolution that I'm fairly certain doesn't exist, I'd say you're fine.

And it only took one evening.
I remember someone said something along the lines of
"Man, if we could get all these people working together on a cure for cancer, we could probably find one"
Where does the subtle ending change come in?
There is an added line, and the whole
I can confirm this. If you load a pre-update file, it just warps GLaDOS' dialogue. A new game is required.
